Update on Bike parks in Wgtn City problem

    Greetings,

Well, Lord Derosso, you were right, Stuart Bullen knows nothing about motorcycles (he admitted that) but is keen to hear what the issues are with our parking woes.
So I sat him down and showed him the thread here at Kiwibiker. He took a great interest in the responses.
Then I explained to him what the problems are with parking with congestion, wind issues, insufficient numbers of parks etc. I also told him sidestand-only bikes may not take too kindly to angled parking.

So,..he is now proposing expanding the existing bike parks from 1.8m to 2.5m
    to enable straight parking.
There is also a new bike park going in Abel Smith Street up by Real Groovy Records. Let me know if that one works please.
He also wants a record of all of the existing bike parks here in Wellington, so I said I'll unofficially compose a list.
Can you all help me out here please?

(I have now become the unofficial motorcyclist contact for WCC Parking !!!)

    Cheers,
    NDMz

I know there is one on Lambton Quay just along from the intersection with Stout St (heading towards Parliament), plus one in Stout Street and one in Hunter Street, plus that big one on the Terrace above Woodward Street. I know there is one in a side street off Lambton Quay too, but I'm not sure which one it is - maybe Brandon Street?
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

There's one on Thorndon Quay next to ECC (across from Freedom Furniture) Not a good place for it - very exposed and definitely a hazardous spot when there are functions (often) at the Marae.

WELL DONE ! I was a bit confused there for a moment until I realised that you have started a new thread, not sure why, (hijacker !! ),but never mind .Themore voices the better and since you are on the 'inside' I think we can get more done this way. Theres a park outside the Fish shop in Lambton Quay I use during working hours sometimes, one in Stout Street by the fallen pillars, one on the north side of the Occidental as Hitcher pointed out in the other thread. I know of others but my original idea which I have been working on for two weeks now, was to see if the WCC would use some of that huge empty space leading into the WCC square. Theres heaps of room along the side of the library and its very sheltered and ideal for scooters. On closer inspection it has road access and is used by other MV's at times so should be safe enought to enter and exit. Even if they freed up half of that wall there would be about 15-20 parks for the scooters. Check it out. I also found that bike park up by Farmers exit bloody handy this Saturday gone as I had to go and check out some models for an uncle in the Far North and it was nicely locatedand heaps of space. Cool...... Keep it going and updates please.

Good on ya for doing this
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.

college st had 2! i had one below our apartment when we lived in the city.
Its gone! stupid cloths store opened up and asked if it could be turned into a loading zone or something and they took it away! the other one is smaller and outside more wilsons, cars keep parking in it and i wouldnt leave my bike there! seen to many large trucks nearly take bikes out trying to get into more wilsons.

courtney place has a joke sized one outside courtney central.
then there is the one outside wellington motorcycles.
the one next to the sky bungy thing by the gym.
And all the ones down in the CBD im sure others will name them all.

There is one on Wileston street (outside POD)

There is one on Victoria street (outside State Insurance tower) This one has a bad drop off to the kerb and the road gets soft in the heat causing some bikes to fall over.

There are two by POD -- One on Willeston Street, the other across the road by the building formerly known as the BNZ Centre. There are two on The Terrace, and one in Clifton Terrace. There are two (one at each end) of Stout Street. There is only one (outside Ducati House) on Lambton Quay, one directly opposite that outside the front entrance of TPK, and one on nearly every cross-street between LQ and Customhouse Quay. I would have thought that the CBD was pretty well served for bike parks. I would have also thought that bikes angle-parked on their side stands were more stable than those parked square to the kerb. But hey, what do I know?

Keep up the good work with the City Council getting the parks extended.

Thanks for all of your responses, peoples !!

I shall put together a spreadsheet once completed and compare it to their (oops, I mean our) official records so we can do more to make ourselves heard.

(Sorry about the hijack Lord Derosso, shouldn't have done that, just wanted to emphasis the work I'm doing, that's all)

Not a problem ! I have been working on this for a few weeks and checking out sites but at least you have got things going again. Had no interest re the big plan yet. Its for the best of all of us so keep it moving. I am surprised he didn't have a clue himself where the official parks are. After all they contract Parkwise out to Armourguard so its important they know what they are paying for. PS: is that a H1 or H2 you are sitting on in your older photo?

There's one on Willis St, between Manners and Dixon, that's currently occupied by roadworks ...
