"As most in here will be aware, my current occupation is not a real secret and not the most favoured one amongst most of you. All that aside, today I fulfilled a fantasy that no doubt most of you would secretly or openly harbour.
Situation - Riding to work today and as I approach the one round-about on my journey, I slow and approach with caution.
Caution? - I do this because this (and indeed most) round-abouts rely on the driver / rider to actually engage their brain in first gear and think about that give way rule. They don't have to rely on a set of lights to tell them what to do, so they actually should think about what they are doing.
The approach - As I am heading to the round-about, I check no cars entering or approaching to my right so I am clear. A quick glance to the left and I see a BMW X5 urban assault vehicle, complete with (sorry ladies) a female driver at the helm. I am close enough to see that her brief, and boy do I mean brief, glance towards my approach has not yeilded her actually seeing me. I can only judge this because by now she hasn't begun to slow down.
The entry - Now I am not dumb. I know I haven't been seen and am not planning on becoming a hood ornament. I adjust my speed enough so I could arrive in roughly the same spot on the round-about as she does as she enters the round-about, and obviously slow and apply a fair quantity of horn (the one atached to the bike that is) to garnish her attention.
The result - Yes, there was the initial shock upon her face. However that quickly transferred to my face as she proceeded to give me a middle finger salute as she proceeded on her merry way.
However - Her personlised rego number was very easy to remember the short distance to work.
The investigation - Suffice to say it was quickly discovered that she lived locally
The visit - I knock on the front door some 2 hours later and politely inform her that I was there investigating a traffic incident from earlier that day and ask a few questions about the matter. The kicker was when she said "That motorbike rider has got no proof it happened, you can't do anything about it. Even if I did do it, who cares, no one got hurt."
The outcome - It was at about that point that the dreaded yellow piece of paper was completed and handed over to her as her verbal tirade continued. It wasn't until the very end after many threats of court appearances and "I'll have your job" and the like did I inform her that it was I that was on that motorbike.
