You may be surprised if Yamaha charge like Suzuki NZ.

Those items for a TL1000 would run around the $300+ mark... TLS radiator here $850,everywhere else half that or less.
It would not be hard to get Stevie Wonder's excess met with genuine parts. The insurance company would no doubt try and stick you with pattern parts to keep the cost down.

    Cheers guys.

Yea Im just fucked off that his insurance broker just seems to brush me off, so Im going to try find out and deal with his insurance company directly.

Although even if I can get a quote for over $1600, doesnt that mean they will only pay the balance over $1600 and I will have to chase him up for the $1600 excess? Apologese for the dumb questions, but this is my first insurance claim on a vehicle.

Unless someone can think of a reason not to,i would go and see his insurance company in person. It saves a lot of BS and getting fobbed off.
I have noticed with a lot of white collar companies they do not want to deal with the public in person.
I was under the impression the policy holder had to meet the excess and any ongoings are the concern of the insurance company and the said policy holder. ?

    Man, motorbike parts prices suck!!

For less than $850 I can get a brand new 'big-enough-to-cool-a-reactor' sized alloy radiator for my F100!!!

    gidday
    a couple of things.
Make a complaint with the Police re careless use or whatever they advise.
Get the bike into a dealer and have a proper assesment done. The assesment fee is added to the bill.
Do you have insurance on this bike? If so make a claim with your insurance company. Provided you can show the other guy was at fault it wont (shouldnt) cost you excess, increased premium or no claims bonus.
If you dont have insurance get to their insurance company and make a claim.
Tell the insurance company where the bike is, their assessor will come and check the assessment and hand it on to the insurance company.
If they pay out and you want the wreck back thats up for negotiation. Something to be aware of, if its written off the rego MAY be cancelled and the bike will be on the computer as being written off. ie problems if you try and rerego the bike.
The excess. If the bike is repaired for say 2000$ the insurance wears 400$ someone has to pay the workshop 1600$ before the bike leaves. ie the guy, or you, and you hit him up for the 1600$ via small claims or asking nicely.
This not a problem if you are claiming via your own insurance. They will front the whole bill and claim from the other company. The insurance companies claim from each other all the time and its swings and roundabouts for them.
Even if the bill (parts and labour) is less than 1600$ go ahead with a claim. You have created a paper trail to use at small claims.
It doesnt take much to get to 1600$ on accident jobs. If you think you can do the job for well under 1600(parts and labour) go direct to the guy and offer him a deal, 1600$, you dont claim on his insurance, he doesnt lose his no claims etc, you will talk the mrs out of going to the police. He is going to pay anyway. Show him the $2200 assesment. You are saving both of you a lot of trouble.
A couple of hooks and snags to be aware of
What is actually happening here is you are claiming from him and he is claiming from his insurance company(even though you are filling out the paperwork). So he can turn around and tell his insurance company not to accept the claim. He can say to you that he will get the bike fixed. And if you flat out refuse, fix it yourself and then go to small claims to get him to pay, he has a defence. After all who is to say the homer you did is any better than the homer he would have done? He can come up with some rubbish about he could get all the parts at huge discount from his buddy at Midnight Yamaha, and if his parts quotes are less than yours you will wear the difference. His brother is a bike mechanic and would do the labour for free, etc etc etc. Document everything. And if you deal with the guy remember the object is to get him to willingly hand over 1600$ Playing the heavy can backfire bigtime.
It can be a real can of worms if YOU dont have insurance.
    good luck

Thanks JimBob. Yep MS does have insurance, but its only 3rd party because at the time, she couldnt afford full cover. I havent got our insurance involved because of that reason.

We have spoken to the guy and he is a bit annoyed at the insurance company, but understands that he is going to be liable to fix the bike
