    Speedo calibrations ???

Other than driving a measured distance in a certain time has anybody got a practical idea how to establish the correct speed a bike does when the speedo shows 100km.
Lately I could not help wondering if my speedo shows "to high" which means I would be travelling "too slow"....the last thing I want to do........

get a cop to check your speed, thats what i did to find what speed my truck was doing, for cops will ping us if we are doing more than 95km. they'll help you out. i've found them darned helpful, they're not always writing tickets...oh, and by the way, if you do get a ticket, from what i'm lead to believe, if your speedo is out, you can get it calibrated and if it is found to be out you can take the proof to the cop shop were theres a good chance you will get off with the speeding fine.

On the freeway that runs between Melbourne and Geelong, there was a big multi-lane gantry that showed the speed for every vehicle that passed underneath. I'd like to see something similar here in Auckland.

FWIW the stock speedo on older BMW bikes traditionally reads around 5 km/h too fast at 100km/h. However I understand that this is no longer the case with the new models.

id like to know as well....even travelling at exactly 50k [by my speedo] i still get cars right up behind me. same as at 100k....ive always been suspcious thats my speedo is reading too high....as a result i generally travel at around 55k [in town] and 100/110k on the open roads [though its hard to get her going that fast, lol]

Ring your local cops, ask if they have a speed readout trailer in the area and if so where it'll be. That'll give a comparison at 50km/h

I wouldnt trust those speed signs, i have been past a few and get seriously different readings, with the same car at the same speed. Mmmm

I think the trailers are owned/operated by ACC and the districts, are they not?

I just remembered. There's a permanent electronic speed measuring sign on St Andrews Road in Epsom, Auckland.

I've found them spot on. Were there other cars in the beam?

Negatory. The alignment looked good and no reflective metal surfaces. One was trailer mounted and one was pole mounted about 50m up the road.
By the way, do you work in the office, or mostly out on the road Lou?
