I have yet to install a smoking sound system as I've spent the past five years using my bikes as my main form of transport minus the wife. I plan on riding ffuggly as a winter bike cause here in BC our winters are pretty mild except for lots of rain.
I have sorted most issues out, just need to fit a chain adjuster as the two Air Ride shocks raise and lower 5 inches onto two kickstands making ffuggly impossible to move once parked.
I fully expect to be taken to task for building ffuggly but those of us who ride everyday know that it is getting dangerous out there. There are drivers out there who reallly don't give a $&it about our safety or well being, if they can save five seconds to pull out in front of a bike, they will. I lost two friends four years ago because of this and I'm still pissed. Thinking it could never happen to me nine months later the attending surgeon tells me I came within millimeters of being paralysed thanks to a council truck who "did not see me".
I was told I would need a year of physiotherapy and it would be best if I gave up riding as it was aggravating the neck injury and bring on artheritis??
Riding three months after the injury led to headaches lasting three days!
Since I had little cash for therapy I decided to sell the mint Honda Magna and wrecked zx11 and build ffuggly. It has been three years in the making and three prototypes.
Riding ffuggly is very similar to riding the xz 11 with a cruiser seating position. Heavy but solid. A little swaying from brisk cross wind at 60 km/h but solid and straight at 120 km/h. Low speed u-turns are tricky but just keep her upright and there isn't a problem. Because she is built as a bolt on body kit I've told by four inspection shops I don't need to re-register her as the engine and frame numbers haven't been altered. Wonder if insurance will give me a break on the $4000 a year quote now that I'll be riding a ffuggly bike that reduces the chances of physical injury to the rider, feel bad for the pedestrian or deer though.
I fully agree that I should not be building this, it should be left to design experts and engineers who do this for a living who are paid by shareholders who want to see a profit every quarter. BMW's C1 sold 10,000 units every year and it was still not profitable?? I don't get it either, the big boys need to sell bucketloads to stay in business, everything else is just a school boys dream.
This design is not new, 30 years ago two Brits built the Quasar and is still considered a icon in the Feet Forward club. Just because it is not consumed by the mass market does not mean it doesn't need to be built. As most riders know, it is about the freedom to choose.
