    Tawa 40km/hr Submission Time

    Hey all,

Just giving a heads up to everyone in the Tawa/Wellington area about the Tawa 40k speed limit proposal is out and submissions can be made on the internet.

    The site is
    http://www.wellington.govt.nz/haveyo...roads-tawa.php

Now i started the thread ages ago on it and most people agree its a silly idea so anyone who can lets try stop this going through and get your submissions in.

They also include in the letter about the Proposal some statistics,
    - For every 1km/hr we lower speeds we can expect 2 or 3% reduction in crashes, lowering the limit also reduces severity of accidents.
    - Survival rates for pedestrians rises dramatically when speeds reduced from 50k.
    - The 40k limit will be safer.

Lets see, 40k will frustate people thats generally not safe, (eg, road rage etc)
and most people brake before hitting pedestrians so that really ain't to relevant (i know it'll be slower if you are initially slower), and all together there are no big statistics for accidents (pedestrians involved or not) in Tawa so why should the speed limit be lowered?

Anyway get into it and stop it if ya can.

    Here's my submission:

I am making this submission: As an individual
Do you agree with the entire proposal to reduce the speed limit?
    No
    Appropriate Speed Limits
Comments: The proposal talks about the councils investigations on the reduction of the limit and the impact on the % of crashes. I believe the council needs to seek independent research to confirm these findings and quantify the actual number of crashes.

There has been a huge response to the 40km/h speed proposal so far.
    Quite amazing.

    My submission...

Do you agree with the entire proposal to reduce the speed limit?
    No
    Appropriate Speed Limits

Comments: Should the speed limit in Tawa be reduced to 40km/hr I for one will no longer see Tawa as a destination for shopping. I feel frustrated by slow traffic as it is and suggest that a lot of people will be turned off visiting Tawa to shop as a result of a silly speed limit. Hutt City, We've got the lot! Except for a ridiculous speed limit that is.

Nope...first, it's Tawa...then it's somewhere else. Before you know it it'll be quicker to walk everywhere.

That wont work Jim. Bureaucracy 101 - divide and conquer. They will roll this out suburb by suburb so we wont collectively beat the crap out of their stupid idea.

Yerp, my concern exactly. I'll be making a submission. Tawa has always been a fuddy duddy shithole like that. It got its first pub only a couple of years back, it used to be "dry".

Come to think of it... Tawa is the northernmost part of WCC's jurisdiction. I wonder if the grand plan is to start at the top and work their way to Island Bay. When is the next local body election??????

More on the topic, (i will quote the council plan)

"To reduce speed in those streets, speed humps, islands or other traffic calming measures would be required before the speed limit could be reduced."

In other words we are going to waste good money putting shit everywhere.

"A similar approach to speeds has since been proposed in other areas where SaferRoads planning or construction work is under way."

Yes this is going to come to an area near you, so act now.

"Recent observations undertaken in Tawa show vehicles are travelling more slowly as a result of the roading changes."
"The proposed 40km/hr speed limit would formalise that change but make very little real difference to most drivers in most Tawa streets because they already drive that speed now."

Yes they have already wasted enough money ruining the roads and slowing traffic causing congestion.

Now for example all the roundabouts they have put in round Tawa, i currently live in Blenheim which has got far too many roundabouts on main roads and causes congestion even when not busy. Hit 5pm when everyone is going home and traffic gets to stand stills when it shouldn't be able to.

Uh huh. And you think a fringe group of disorganised motorcyclists is going to make any difference?

When petrol hits $2 a litre the open road speed limit will become 80 km/hr, and suburban limit will be 40km/hr, and it will make bugger all difference to the journey times of the most populous city, and largest commuter base in the country, Auckland.

The Government will then be able to make significant savings on Kyoto protocol carbon payments as a direct result. We can whinge all we want. It's going to happen, "for the good of us all".

Only because shitty NZ drivers have no idea how to use roundabouts.

That Prendergast woman must have been trained by Auntie Helen.

Thats probably the condition she was on about in her back down on Tranny Gully once she figured that she was gone for all money next election unless she woke up.

I can see the headline now... Tranny Gully gets the go ahead, with a 40km speed limit.

Another reason, apart from camera recognition of license plates, to lose them (plates).
