Because it is an iconic bike and they needed to get a larger engine to compensate for the power loss they hit fitting a catalytic converter for the new EuroIII emissions laws.....I think this is just because they arent ready to issue a new bike - and they want to prop up the end of the old model line and let it run a little further, into EuroIII territory..... I'm sure there is one in development....
