    What caused your bin?

    Hi,

A morbid thread perhaps, but am very curious.

Anyone that has dropped their bike in the last 12 months, I am curious as to how. I need honesty, and I mean any accident on the road, no matter how minor.

I need you to select 1 option in each of the two groups, and if speed was a contributor (ie: too fast for the obvious conditions, not just higher than the posted limit). The speed for the conditions is tricky, if you were going quick around a corner, but well under the limit, and hit loose metal that was not sign posted, I would say you were not going too fast for the conditions.

Seriosness: minor (no Hospital) / injury (in Hospital) / Very Serious (major hospital time / recovery time)

Major Cause: Rider Error / Uneven Surface / Loose Surface / other road problem / other road user / other

    Speed: Speed was a contributor

The reason is, have heard a lot about accidents lately, and sooooo many due to shit roads, I want to see if it is me, or if it is actually true. Police stats say it is speed, but we all know, in most bins, we get up and ride away (or get carted away) and don't need to report it. So what are the real stats?

Want to try and get some action on cleaning up our roads for summer, too many people falling off, and nothing done about it.

PS. debating whether this should be in here, as it is road bike specific, or law, given it is slightly bent that way, so mod's please feel free if you think it should be moved.

My once an only "incident" (its not an accident if you don't fall off) was just minor cosmetic damage due to me being a dickhead.

My only bin in the last 9yrs was at the track so doesn't count I suppose. But anyway it was rider error - too much throttle out of the turn resulted in a glorious highside. Minor injury, not too much damage to the bike.

Usually rider error... once too much gas, but I was buggerd anyway (highside or low side) I picked the later

Most resent, cooked (old as) tyre... I knew it but still pushed too hard.

Fallen once because of aggresion... t/boned another racer on purpose to take him out of contention... he was quite good about it

My accident was a mixture of things... there were a few contributing factors... but Rider Error was the main cause.

Minor solo accident, minor injurys... bike = write off

There was water running across the road, uneven surface (small potholes... ish), barely scrubbed in tyres and apparantly a loose fitted rear wheel.

All helping to cause the accident. Although now after reading Twist of Wrist II, I now see that the accident was avoidable had I not paniced and braked mid-corner after my rear spun out on me...
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

For me it was Rider Error; not enough experience in corners. I was a complete noobie, locked up the brakes and went down.
I am now entering my second month off work due to the broken hand, doh!

I had a small altercation with a dog end of last year, probably would have been ok, was going really slowly, but could not get my foot down as I was on the edge of a curbed roadway and the space for me to put my foot down was actually a culvert!... ...more embarrassing than anything else, had to get help to pick the bike up as the wheels were higher than the bars

Native New Zealander didn't understand give way rule so I got to slide down the street using my knee as a brake. What fun.

This is why I never abuse Asian drivers coz in my experience I've never seen THEM do stupid stuff.

Worst of all are white people driving Falcons or Commodores - they are the worst fuggen drivers in the world bar none (and I've driven in Italy man!)
