Bodyweight is directly proportional to the calories that go down one's throat. If you eat more than your metabolism burns and you are able to shit away, you will gain weight. There's a law of thermodynamics along those lines. And please don't pursue the "big bones" myth.

The old way worked perfectly well, there was no reason to change. Pounds, pence, feet, inches ,ells, fathoms, yards, drachms ,minims, chains, perches , everybody understood what they were and where things stood. Now noone has any idea.
