BIKE UK tester lost licence in NZ

Ha ha serves him right. Latest Bike mag has a good story on NZ as biking nirvana. The lucky reporter spent 2 weeks ripping around the South island only to get nabbed at the end.

Normally I would step up and forgive a speeder in certain cases- any case involving me for example. But this idiot overtook a line of cars going through the Ra valley (pause and reflect on the oh so beautiful Ra Valley for riding )
Anyway, a black Commy he blew passed was a mufti. He was doing 230kph as he passed- that bit éven I don't condone. Who hasn't blasted at sub the speed of sound through there when it's all empty for as far as you can see. But overtaking others...What if one car or a bike in the line was indicating to turmn right across the centreline to a scenic reserve or something!
Must have been a friendly Cop because he allowed him to ride back behind the car to Nelson for a prompt court hearing. Got fined $600 and disqualified for 6 months. He only had 2 days left in NZ so it was a pleasant surprise coming from pommy land where they near execute traffic offenders nowadays.
Funny thing is I'm going to be riding through there in about 20 hours! yeehaa.
Thanks Bike for the black commy warning.

Edit- opps, yes it's Rai Valley

It was a good write-up eh? Funnily enough, a couple of mates of a friend of mine were pulled for speeding and ended up in court in Nelson last year. Same judge by the sound of it as he was more interested in what they rode than the offence. Got off with far less than they were expecting.

Rai Valley Bakery do the best Pies. No wonder I have lost weight since coming to CHCH

    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers

So what's the score here? He can't have lost his licence per se since a New Zealand Court has no right to suspend a driver's licence issued in UK. did he just receive a New Zealand wide 6 month ban?

I've been wondering about this myself (not that I speed of course!) but the UK authorities do not require that you surrender your licence when you pick up another licence in another country (kiwis transferring to a UK licence have to return their Kiwi licence) I have therefore got 2 Dirvers licences - if my kiwi licence gets suspended theoretically I just need to pop out of the country...say Australia or New Caledonia and upon my return my UK Licence is valid for a year - should cover any bans I think.

Has anyone used this loophole at all?

Just out of interest - not that I'm gonna break the law or anything (like a VTR 250 will get above 100kph!)

Nah I think your still stuffed, they know you have a UK and NZ licence - if you get pulled they will run your details and flag up your NZ licence too. Especially if its a big fine and you go to court.
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..

I used this loophole in the UK for 25 years. Every year I went to the continent and when I came back in my NZ licence was valid for another years riding. Sometimes all I did was take a day trip to Paris, have a beer in the Place de la Concorde and come home in the afternoon.

I actually got a UK licence at one stage then lost that for speeding, so after surrendering the UK licence I drove away from the courthouse on my NZ licence. The Stroud traffic police followed me all the way to Cardiff waiting for me to do something wrong.

I don't like speeding arseholes. But I see no problem going 230kph as long as there is no other traffic on the road.

Seing as he didnt crash i'd say he was safe as houses. Awesome getting banned from driving when you don't even live here, more so that he is a bike reporter! what mag is he from anyways? (sorry don't read bike mags)
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

The overseas licence seems to work. 2004 i was in a bunch and one of us got nicked at 170. he had just flown in from oz so showed that licence (he also had a NZ licence but must have forgotten about that, silly man) Officer said he could not confiscate a foreign licence but the instant 28 ban still applied. Issued him the ticket and we pillioned him away under watchful (or wrathful?) eyes.
MUST - get an Oz licence one day when over there ...Over there, over there ...(bursts into stupid old song..) I'm just so upbeat about heading off on a long overdue bike trip. It's 10 past beer o'clock as well for me .
