Think about it -no fairing to crunch and a big buttie 7" halogen headlight -with even a 55/65 would still be gruntier than the fxr headlight

I wonder what's a safe maximum in wattage to have for headlight bulbs. Standard is 12v 25/25w, I want to get some 50's or something but dunno if that'll cause any probs.

25W?!? That's like a toy light.
My VTR has a 90/130W bulb in it. (Queue Crocodile Dundee scene: "Call that a Light? Now THIS is a light!")
I dunno what the safe wattage is for your bike - that'd depend on your alternator/stator output and whether the bike has proper wires through the headlight circuit or just toy ones, but I'd imagine it should handle 55/60 no problems. But then again, I'm just pulling this out of my butt - nothing to go on.

all my bikes headlights get changed to 100/130 or something simlar to that, i use to do alot of night riding, i have not got around to chaing the 600 yet, but i will get there. It makes a hell of a difference, i have done this mod on my old zzr250, gsxr1100, done it on two of the wifes cars as well.

Hmmmph. The FXR doesn't have an alternator, it has a magneto.
It should be a simple matter of swapping out loads on the headlight connection while the bike is running and seeing how much it can take without the magneto output voltage sagging, then matching that to a bulb wattage.
Except I don't have a wiring diagram.

Standard it has 2x25w bulbs
25+25=50
Ok so 1 55w buld is gonna make jack shit difference to the drain on the battery. 65w Hi beam is 15w more
but reality is for the amount of time you're gonna spend on high beam you'll be fine
It isn't just a matter of bulb size but also beam dispersment (i think thats the right word)
I betya if you fitted twin round headlights with the same bulbs it would light a heck of a lot better.
And a "old fashioned " 7" round headlight with a 55w bulb will seem like a laser beam
I wouldn't go fitting a 100 or 130w bulb in a fxr
I really don't think the windings would be up for it
I mean the rally guys use huge round spotlights for a reason -it aint for looks after all
