    R1 wheel play

Can anyone help, I have just got an 05 R1. It's done 7K kays and when I tied it down in the van the other day I noticed there was a slight amount of play in the rear wheel. I have been told it is due to the needle roller bearing, but I can't feel it on other bikes. Should I be worried??

It depends on what you mean by slight. I would take it to a Yamaha dealer and have it inspected. The last thing you want is something to fail in the rear wheel at 200kph. You may not live to regret it.

Good point, but a Yamaha dealer was the one who told me about the bearing. I believe him but want to know if this is common and still a bit unsure?

Okay, I checked my friends 06 R1 today and there is no play whatsoever. I'd say you've either got a bad bearing or the wrong bearing in there.

Thanks for that. I rode to Paeroa on the weekend and checking it tonight it feels a little worse. Off to the shop she goes.
