I still dont see the connections between V8s and modern japanese singles. Would they not have evolved from previous motorcycle design?
Bah humbug ^_^
Mr. N. Shimazu built what is generally considered to be the first motorcycle ever built in Japan in 1909
In 1912 MSA (Miyata Small Arms - odd that) supplied the Asahi (morning sun) single cylinder motorcycle of their own design and constructio n to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
It was a 3.5 (RAC) hp 4 stroke single.so, a 500cc. 480 yen it cost. A lot then
The Nihon powered by a 250cc cast iron single cylinder engine cost only 200 yen.
Sorry , Tim
EDIT: Incidentally, Meguro, the manufacturer who produced the Meguro K1 A10 "clone" a fabled wonder spoken of in hushed whispers in the 60s, first made motorcycles in 1909. Single cylinder ones.

If it can run on 91, running on 98 is likely to result in reduced performance.

We should all be using Avgas anyway.
It's leaded isn't it? Definatelt not in a BMW. And a two smoker is never going to need more than about 80 octane.
