DETONATING CAN BE FROM OTHER THINGS NOT JUST GAS LIKE CARBON DEPOSITS ,OR IGNITION TO ADVANCED , BP HAVE 98 OCTANE AT THE PUMP

My 7litre (429 cubic inch) V8 is 11:1 compression, it will only run any good on avgas or 98(and even then it's not as good as the old leaded super).

Cold plugs, ram-air and a richer mixture helped - but I still need 98+ octane.

Everything ya wanker - it's MADE from those old V8's.

And your 'recycled V8' into 'modern jap single' wouldn't be doing 125,000 miles + unless said V8 carried it on its deck!!

I still dont see the connections between V8s and modern japanese singles. Would they not have evolved from previous motorcycle design?

    Bah humbug ^_^

Mr. N. Shimazu built what is generally considered to be the first motorcycle ever built in Japan in 1909

In 1912 MSA (Miyata Small Arms - odd that) supplied the Asahi (morning sun) single cylinder motorcycle of their own design and constructio n to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
    It was a 3.5 (RAC) hp 4 stroke single.so, a 500cc. 480 yen it cost. A lot then
The Nihon powered by a 250cc cast iron single cylinder engine cost only 200 yen.

    Sorry , Tim

EDIT: Incidentally, Meguro, the manufacturer who produced the Meguro K1 A10 "clone" a fabled wonder spoken of in hushed whispers in the 60s, first made motorcycles in 1909. Single cylinder ones.

Well I am riding a GSX 250 and have been puting 91 it as most of the time I am only commuting. Going to Bp and filling it with 98 is that going to cause problems or go better? would it need a bit of a tune for the difference or are these happy with anything you throw in them??

If it can run on 91, running on 98 is likely to result in reduced performance.

It's leaded isn't it? Definatelt not in a BMW. And a two smoker is never going to need more than about 80 octane.
