    Speedo Cable advice needed!

My speedo cable falls out probably at least once every 2 months, it fell out again last night when I was coming back from Featherston. I just spent a good 15 minutes out the front of my work swearing and kicking my bike trying to get the thing tightened but the screw is on a really weird angle so all I ended up doing was ripping my hands up. Got a workmate of mine to help and he tightened it in 2 minutes (or less). I hate feeling like a helpless girlie and was hoping that someone may be able to give me some advice on how to make sure it stays put for good. My man suggested he puts some Loctite on it, would this last for quite awhile or is there something better to use?

Loctite. Or one of the equivalents. Or get tech and wire the ferrule in place.

locktite is pretty good at keeping it in.

Use blue locktite so if you ever need to replace you can take it out. Green locktite will hold it better but it will be a bitch to unscrew if you ever need to and blue locktite will do the job well.
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

Id recommend stawberry flavour loctite. Its a bit weaker but the bolt isnt under bugger all force and one day you may want to undo it

As an option, just make it a part of your pre flight check to ensure the beastie is tight before riding off?

Locktite or similar may do the job but make sure the threads are clean BEFORE applying it.

Yeah, I was thinking that last night. I was also kicking myself for not checking it, I mean duh, how many times does it need to happen before I realise!

Cheers for the advice, im going to get Glenn to do it as he is way more "onto it" than I am!

have same problem, ever since i took the instrument cluster to bits.. ..bit of a pain stopping on the side of the road and screwing it back on.. just gotta get round to putting some stuff on the thread.. you should be able to get at it by taking off part of your fairings.. shouldnt need to pull your instruments off..

I'd have to take a look but iff there is some solid object like a fixing screw or summat near the end of the cable, my recommendation would be to get a small hose clip and fit it over the twist on part of the cable.

Tighten the cable first and then slip the hose clip over the fitting and tighten it up snuggly so it grips the cable end and touchs the fixture thus preventing the cable end from unscrewing.. This is hard to explain but easy to do if you know what I mean. It makes it easy to remove the cable later on if needs be.

Actually, I forgot a very good trick, right up there for chicks. Clear nail varnish is your friend! Tighten ferrule, bolt etc. Apply nail varnish to the "ferrule meets thread" bit. Let dry. Sorted. Good as Loctite for lightly loaded applications .

Is very useful, nail varnish. Just don't let your wife/partner/Mum/sister/SWMBO catch you "liberating" it.
