I dunno, Wkid. Some haven't been around long enough, and others memory isn't the flashest ....

Zed What about a Two brothers racing pipe. Developed specially for Hondas and amazing build quality. I have a Titanium one on the Gixxer and it sounds hot!

It also smothed out the tingly vibration through the midrange and gave it some in the bottom end.

You'd be suprised at the price too!

    Amazing build quality?!?
Must be a different Two Bros from all the ones I've ever come across then. Most are loud, and not well built. From what I've read on other forums, Two Bros (actually "One Bro" since one left to start Erion Racing, who also make systems) spend little if anything on R&D and it's just guesswork and copying other systems.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    Ummm.....? Really?

I've seen the R&D they put into their bits and pieces and was impressed.

How much research you think goes into a Neptune? Not bagging them or anything coz they're inexpensive. Just not what I'd call a performance muffler.

Yeah. F'rinstance - my VTR originally had 2-Bros, but a previous owner removed them as he said they were much louder and gave less power on the dyno than standard pipes with a bafflectomy. Similarly, they are not highly rated on various VFR lists, the CF ones fall apart fairly readily, and the US VFR listers said their customer service was crap and that they were arrogant assholes.
To be fair, my only personal experience was that on bikes I've ridden with them on, they were too loud and looked cobbled together. They are popular in that they are cheap and were included as a 'free' extra on the VTRs for a while.

How do you 'see' R&D? (No, I'm not having a go at you, WT).

Fair comment, and you could say the same about many manufacturers. If I was buying a Neptune, it'd be for looks and sound, and customer service.
If you were interested in seeing a real performance improvement from a muffler/system, then it'd pay to do some research first into which companies actually dyno their pipes, assuming the data is reliable.

The bike manufacturers actually do a pretty good job on their pipes anyway, which you'd expect because they're matching the zorsts to the engine setup. So you're only going to see maybe a couple of HP at the top end (which is only vald for racing - who rides at max revs all the time on the road?) and maybe a slight gain in the midrange (important), where a lot of bikes experience a slight dip due to the setup for emissions/noise testing in Europe and California. However, this usually requires some retuning and/or rejetting, and REAL gains are only going to be had with a full replacement (read: race)system anyway. Most gains are usually at the expense of low to mid-range anyway, aren't they? On the 'Storm, no real power gains are to be had until you fit high-comp pistons and more radical cams, so fitting other zorsts is done for looks and sound.

To be honest, I reckon most people would buy an aftermarket pipe or muffler for the pose factor and sound anyway, as the OEM ones are (a) usually too emasculated, (b) too heavy and (c) not very attractive.

Thanks for all the feedback peoples - I have decided to go with a stainless Scorpion pipe, a k&n filter, and a dynojet carb kit. This will all be covered under the cost of a new OEM Honda muffler! Lou, thanks for your assistance. I told Spectrum to get the filter & carb kit from you.

    From their website:
    Dyno Tested
Scorpion obtains new motorcycle models from our network of dealers as soon as they become available. Then it's straight into the Dyno room where we test the bike with the O.E.M. exhaust still fitted to see where improvements can be made - not just in power and torque, but also ground clearence, ease of fitment and looks.
Each Scorpion exhaust is specifically designed for the particular application. Scorpion exhausts are designed to boost power, not just at peak revs, but through the RPM range, giving you greater throttle response and improved overall performance - especially in the mid-range.
We run computer simulated acceleration tests so we can see how much faster the bike will be travelling over a timed burst of throttle. A scorpion equipped CBR900RR, in just 7.40 seconds, travelled 6 mph faster and covered and extra 39 feet!
    Impressive we think you'll agree!

Will post a pic of the bike on its completion.

ahh, buy a yoshi or akra pipe and be done with it man! best flippin systems around, just ask the race teams. 12 week wait on the yoshi is pretty substandard though. you should be able to get an akrapovic for $1000 tho.

In the same way that I wouldn't call Wellington Motorcycles a Performance Motorcycle retailer?

Because that would be a serious bagging.

PS: Handbag is ready for battle. Bring your pink one. I always fancied scoring a pink handbag from a duel.
