RG150 Help wanted - Auckland

does anyone have a RG150 that my wife could sit on and try the weight?

Not asking for a test ride at this point but she has decided she would like a bike of her own and likes the look of a RG150 on Trademe - problem is - it's in Welly so we can't go try it!

She finds the VTR250 a bit heavy but wants to come out on rides so wants something with a bit of poke - I think having a 2 stroke would be useful for me to learn the whole dismantle/rebuild aspect of biking too!

Id strongly recommend a 150 2 stroke, although it may not be too good for the masculinity when she roars past you . Don't forget the KRR150 either, I think it looks better than the RG and I think (havent ridden or raced an RG) they're about the same speed. As long as she knows it NEEDS to be thrashed every so often or else itll gum up. Best fun on two wheels though, wouldnt trade it for any 250 4stroke. Anyway, sure you've read all that already.

If theres no better offer or she'd like to try the KR as well, she's welcome to jump on my bike and check it out for size. A quick warning: she might not settle for an RG after checking the wonders of the KR!

Oh really? I am in the middle of a couple of Rg150's and I reakon they are the best learner bike around.

And for note... the KR in road going trim is a touch slower than the RG but as I far as I kno0w a little more reliable. BUT the KR looks like bogs balls, especially the yukky wire wheel model.

I will have my RG in a couple of weeks so I will let you know when I get it. Unfortunately it will probably be a bit late for the auction but just so you know

Was only taking the piss with the comment mate, i'm a fan of anything that goes ringa ding ding . I think it depends on which model KR, the RG is definitely faster than the KR150, but ive heard the newer KRRs are on par with the RGs. I really wouldnt know for sure.

I ride an RG150 and did the RRRS course this weekend.
Although I'd plug anyone to go for an RG I'd have to say seeing the positively elfin Christine power down countersteering through cones, chucking about a 1300 Gixxer made me realise any woman can ride any bike like fury.
The 'size / weight' things all in the mind!
(but what isn't?)
Christine's gixxer was also a natty purple so maybe your wife'd prefer one of these?

All credit to Jeaves who came out east with his RG150 - Mrs McJim sat upon the beast and announced "This is more like it - yep - get me one of these!" Jeaves kindly offered her a test drive but she declined as she's still a bit shaky from her minor bin. Chivalry not being dead I therefore offered to test ride the zuki for her!

What a delightful little bag of bolts - I want one as a toy - the VTR is more comfortable for commuting and the low range torque on the VTR is great but once in the ol' power band the RG packs a decent punch for it's weight.

A nice wee bike.

Never finished this thread properly. Went to Hamilton, paid $2,000, bought RG150 with about 25,000km on the clock but with excellent service records of recent work done. Maverick kindly rode it back to Auckland for me and I've since had it's Warrant of Fitness sorted out which it passed happily.

i had an rg150 for two years up until about a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it. its quick and light and easy to get around on and no problems at all. i found it too light though in winds over the rimutakas! They are a great bike and i will strongly recommend it. she might get bored though after a while and want a bigger one! OH and i am female as well - but i guess you can tell from my name!
