Saturday vs Sunday Drivers

Bit of thread necromancy here really, but hey...

From what I've seen, the absolute best time to go riding on the open road is throughout the middle of the day during a working week. Very little traffic, and what there is of it tends to be professional driver types, couriers, truckies, etc.

Taking a day off work, heading out through (or just after) the rush hour traffic, and several hours of lonely motorcycling bliss around the middle/top NI just can't be beat.

Anyday of the week can be horrible... especially when I have to take my car out....lol Thank goddess it aint that often.

From 3pm when school kids gets out of school, it is total bedlem on the roads... and the cars block both sides of the road.. and then they drive so slow....... or they double park and sometimes triple park so you cant get past, that lasts til after 6pm

Sunday drivers were the oldies that used to crawl along the country roads or main roads/motorways at a snails pace and hold up traffic.

But anyone I see holding up traffic no matter what day of the week it is, I call them Sunday drivers..lol.

Now I'm fairly certain the term "Sunday Driver" came from the days when most people worked Monday to Saturday, with only the one day off. So Sunday Drivers were people who only got behind the wheel on that day - and so were rusty, poor observation skills etc.

Actually it comes from people specifically employed by the established churches to drive like to ensure that everyone else on the road actually prayed on the "Lord's Day"

The tradition is gone now but the concept survives in the people employed by the govt to drive reeeaaaalllly sssslllloooowwwww on the motorway to increase the general level of road rage...

Its Sat. drivers for me today - well one idiot in particular. Wifey and I went into Wgtn today and we bought her a pair of Dragin jeans. Then went and had a nosy in WMC and then had a coffee at the cafe a couple of doors down. (Excellent food there btw) We sat at the outside tables. As we stood up to leave a s/wagon mounts the curb and just touchs the helmet in my wifes hand, as she was getting up from the table. This clown seems to own the kabab shop next to the cafe and was making a delivery of veges. Instead of using the loading zone 30m up the road he dives thru the lights, up the curb and parks amongst the cafe tables. If she had stepped back a moment earlier he probably would have hit her.
Seems you dont even have to be on your bike for cage drivers to try to knock you over.

IMHO the best time is about 1 am. in the morning on the Welly motorway...hardly any cars (10 odd total to the hutt) and pretty much no cops (seen 1 in 3 odd years working Saturday nights) except for the odd boy racer trying to be cool zooming past me @ 130 +
