all drivers are guilty !!! haha i have only been riding for a few weeks now but you pick up how fuking shitty Auckland drivers are!!!! cars folloowing toooo close gets me fukd off!

so the good old " fuck off" signal indicated by the index finger usually works or not to the other wanna be bangstar hoodrat who was stanching me out as if he was gonna hit me. until i dropped him on the m-way

Different topic, but I saw some cage, not disabled card parked in a disabled bay tonight...left a note

"you are parked in my Daughters parking space, do you want her disability".....

probably screw it up but maybe they will think twice next time.

Not wanting to steal the topic ...but this is brilliant... I must remember to use that line in future. It's also one of my pet hates, ignorant, inconsiderate people who can't be bothered to walk an extra few metres.

When I ride in traffic I'm constantly watching other motorists to see what they are doing, what they might be thinking, where they might be tryig to get to and whether they have seen me.

I'm particularly cautious passing through intersections or when there is a car that wants to pull into my stream of traffic from the left or the right. In such cases I often position my self slightly ahead of, and to the left or right of a car or truck so that there is a large object in my vicinity. The theory being that there is a better chance of the stationary car seeing the larger vehicle near me and therefore NOT pulling out in front of me.

Basically I'm constantly intuitively scanning ahead and behind for motorists behaviour and trying to predict what might do next. Of course this technique won't protect against the really mad cagers who come at you totally out of the blue, but it goes a long way towards being safer.

It's one thing to be in the right as far as the road rules are concerned, but it's better to simply not be there when something goes wrong.

In the two years and 30,000+kms I've been riding I've not had one accident or near miss (touch wood!), which I think is largely due to this habit I've developed.

Yea you gotta hate the blind bastards on the roads. They do it when your in a car aswel so i already knew to expect this and even more so when i started riding my bike. Iv'e had to avoid more while driving my car than my bike but that is 3yrs vs 2 months

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, but I'd rather hear this than you posting a thread saying I binned into the car and fcuked up my leg, hip and bike.

Reality about biking is cager clowns will pull out in front of you, but you have to be prepared, I've had worse ones than this and I am sure others have, even bad stories.

Key thing is to place yourself on the correct side of the road when commuting, look ahead, plan and be prepared for the unexpected (ie.a cager pulling out in front of you out of nowhere)

Advantage of bikes is, they are small and hence you can position yourself on different sides on the lane to be more safe. Watch out for this and practise it and see how it goes.

And yes if you get really fucked off give them the old harresment and bang on the window or a talking, or swearing and abusing, it sometimes works, then they won't stare at you like fuckwits!

Lets face it, you can read a lot on KB that would only add fuel to the arguement that it's bikers that are seen by many as thoughtless, brainless hooligans who think they own the road. Fact is we don't own the road. It's there for everyone's use and enjoyment. But you have to abide by the rules and I'm afraid we as bikers are probably just as bad as other road users at not doing so. Yes I agree, many car drivers could well use some lessons in using their eyes, and hats off to all of us bikers who ride defensively and safely. Sadly there are too many bikers out there who don't. I think my point is that before we label other motorists as totally blind, thoughtless, brainless twats, we should get our own house in order.

I don't think most people think that they all are, it's just that everyone has had bad experiences with people not looking and have therefore adopted the attitude that if you treat them all as being blind bafoons you will be safer. 95% of the time they will look and be safe but its the 5% of the time that they don't you have to watch out for. So yea... i think the attitude just gets adopted as a safety mechanism.

Bikers have the problems of pushing themselves to hard, being arrogant or just being pricks. They generally have more awareness of what is around them and can't be distracted talking on the phone or putting on makeup. We still have our problems but they are generally putting ourselves in more danger than others.

Both have problems, both need different ways of dealing with.

Good point MC. Roll on the day when hand-held phones are banned in vehicles here in NZ. Not to mention the lowest legal driving age!! 15 year olds and "hot" cars do not mix. (IMHO)

that should be a good idea. In Australia talking on a celly whilst driving is illegal and poses heavy penalties!!! but were not Australia and shouldnt take much notice of them. - but this one i nz should imply this law as Australia has.
