    New Eftpos Account

Was in Foodtown today buying some piss and went to pay with my eftpos card.

    Please enter account:
    CHK
    SAV
    CRD

WTF? I have a cheque account. What option am I supposed to use? "CHK" replies the indian lady behind the checkout. I pointed out that I don't have a checkout account, I have a cheque account. She didn't understand so I wobbled my head.

Another example of the slow americanisation of this country.

A call to help from the BOTTY and BDOTGNZA, we cannot allow this to happen. It's almost as demoralising as the "candy bar" at the movies.....

    Arrrrrggggghh.

Can't say I have seen 'CHK' yet but do agree that it should be 'CHQ'
You know you had a good nite when you have to ask someone if you had a good nite.

It'll be an American EFTPOS unit. Or Chinese, made for their most important market. Americans are too arrogant to bother about internationalisation features. Look at MS Office, most n00bs can't work out why their spell check doesn't like Queen's English because it's automatically set up for US English. I bet if you went to Soviet Russia the thing would still ask for CHK SAV CRD. I don't know of any NZ companies that would produce EFTPOS units for the home market. Electronics is all about economies of scale.

That said, I hate the fucking Americani[s/z]ation myself. I'm very fond of the `u' in `colour', thank-you very much.

Though you have to hand it to the Yanks for putting 'z' to good use.

What was the brand of the unit?

I'm sure that a representative of BDOTGNZA will be along shortly, to endorse your stance on this matter.

Bold Defenders Of The Great New Zealand Arse. Ask Hitcher about it, as he's the one in charge.

Second rate and inferior grammar nazis. Who do not give green stamps. Not to be compared with BOTTYNZ the original and still unsurpassed grammer nazis. Demand BOTTY on all occasions, accept no substitutes, endorsed by the crowned heads of Europe, we give green stamps.
