[Welly] Slip on the takas (23 October)

The takas sound really nasty today

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3837408a11,00.html

"Police warned motorists early today that a slip had partially closed State Highway 2 over the Rimutaka Hill. The slip happened on the Featherston side of the hill, 4km from Number 4 Bridge heading towards Wellington."

Just in case anyone was considering going for a zoom in this oh-so-nice weather.

    Dave

I see the Manawatu Groge is closed too. That's going to make holiday weekend returns fun for some.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

I guess I was lucky to get back through to Welly then, leaving Featherson just after 9 this morning.
You know you had a good nite when you have to ask someone if you had a good nite.

I was working last night and about 1.30am went through te Manawatu Gorge in the tanker. I got called up 20 minutes leter to be told it was closed and there was a big slip down. it's a freaky place when you see so much water and debree coming down and you don't kwow what's ready to come down. I went from longburn to Pahiatua and at Makomako there was a slip so I looked and thought there wasn't much room as a tree was down with it. Just made it through.

Just been thru the 'takas. Repoend about 4.30 pm this arvo

I think there was a spill of some kind that had been mopped up by the fire service. White foam on road.

Take care out there, it's slippery and there is your usual collection of arseholes in 4X4's following too close.

    Cheers.

Are the roads over the Pahiatua track or the Saddle road suitable detours for heavies like your tanker yet Skidz? Cheers John.

Yeah, got through tonight. Starting to rain harder now so the gorge could be closed again. Just have to take care on the track or the saddle. They aren't bad detours as we mainly use the Pahiatua Track when we go to Longburn from the south.
