I've secretly always wanted a Bimota V due. But they were savaged in the bike press for being unreliable.
Has anybody ever seen one in NZ?
Holy shit! You can still buy them new.

I have that magazine somewhere... somethings are best remembered rather than re-visited, it would be incredibly disappointing to ride if you've ever ridden anything vaguely modern.
Tried joining your mailing list, but didn't get too far with it. Have an '86 with a stage 3 Stan Stephens engine, Nikkon chambers etc. Much fun!!!
If you know what you're getting into the RG is an awesome bike!
Light weight, nimble handling, peaky power delivery with a light-switch throttle when in the power-band!
Building a bike to take 17" front & a wider rear tyre to give a decent tyre selection, & upgrading the rear shock & better front forks (& I would suggest a steering damper) combined with some careful & generally in-expensive engine/carb/exhaust tweaks will give you a bike capable of running with most new 600-750 bikes & even some of the 1000's if you can master the beast.
BIG (for a 500cc) horsepower can be extracted from one of these motors, 110hp is a reliable cheap build, & if your time & cheque-books aren't limited there examples of these bike running close to 150hp!
I had one for 8 years & always regret letting it go.
Run good oil, spend some time on getting it tuned nicely, replace gearbox oil & sparkplugs every 5000km, & 70,000+ km can be got from one of these motors!
Abuse it, & you'll be blowing it up in no time!
They do-not like to be ridden slowly, if you are accellerating, give it full throttle (if you dare) when slowing down, get on the picks, engine braking is non-existent after a 4-stroke engine, & they also will lean out & melt pistons with the throttle closed for an extended period at high revs!
Good luck
It's not the fall that hurts, but the landing
