    DR250 - 350 conversion

Anyone know if it is possible? Would it be just a case of swapping barrel and piston or would I need the head and cam as well? Or, is the crank stroke length different making it impossible? Anyone have a link to DR350 specs?

    Thanks in advance ...

Depends on the year but the ones I know are a totally different engine - doubt any of the parts fit at all.

    Why do you want to?

Are you looking for a cheap way to upgrade the power of your bike?
    Or is you engine shot?

I could just do with a bit more power. My engine is fine.

A conversion - if possible - would be easiest as I'd liketo keep my bike. But if it costs too much I might as well forget it - or change to a bigger bike like the DR650.

Mine's a 93 model - I have checked the engine bore on various models but can't find info for the 350 yet.

I can imagine - I rode a 350 and was impressed by the difference. A DR650 would be good but they are a fair bit heavier, not to mention expensive. My 250 is a breeze to ride and cheap to run.

well my DR is a breeze to ride when the engine starts you have to bump start it to get the engine to fire into life and my FMF pipe growls and has a titanium header which changes colour as it gets hot is awsome to ride guessing about 60bhp

I just put a gs500 front wheel on my dr350 (pre 98 it bolts in , washers to space) made a bracket out of some aluminum. and all told with bike and all the parts I was under $1000 (paid $600 for the bike) that was with new rubber. It will do 70 just fine. But not as good as the 650 will do. I was on a budget so I had to go with what I got. Pod filter. self rejet. sport demon tires. bicycle speedo. Only thing I have left to do is get a 17 rear rim and mount it up as the 18 inch sport demon makes it look funny. I will wait till I wear the demon out before doing that. It is a blast in the mountains. Wish I could have afforded $5k so I could have goten a dr650 or xr650l to convert. But it is fun. I got an extra set of rims on ebay to have dirt tires too so I can switch back and for in about an hour. They cost about 50 bucks. I say get whichever one you can afford.... but remember the 350 does not have the aftermarket parts off the shelf like brakes and stuff to get them to 320mm. (but the gs500 rim has a 310mm on it and it stops like mad)

Hi mate i have a dr350 W 98' off road /motard if i can call it that.If you cant ride 50klms on a 350 i would give up riding. The moe conversion was easy ,i used a set of RGV 250 3 spoke wheels made a spacer 16mmm and bolted them on using the original dr axles.RGV discs work well with the original DR calipers .The front requires a bracket to reset the caliper to the 310mm RGV disc {back 20mm down 10mm and out 16mm}.The bike is i believe stock purchased second hand and goes like gut shot greyhound. The gearing when purchased was 15 /49 unfortunately it tended to wheel spin at 120klms and a top speed of 145klms plus.I now run 13/46 with a top speed of 110klms and the power and torque is slammed to the ground and yes its a handfull,i spend a lot of time looking up.The gearing i intend to use on the motard will be 15/42 top speed around 160klms.the road wheels are 17 front 18 rear running dunlop sportmax 110 and 140 and it handles far better than the 18-21 dirt combo .No suspesion mods have been done.Do yourself a favour and ride as many bikes as you can borrow ,beg test ride or hire and remember everybody is different.iI have owned 72 road and trail bikes from 1970 til now and as an old timer the DR is right up there but thats only my opinion.bike cost $2000 wheel conversion $400.The best thing is it only takes 10 minutes to convert from road to dirt.Cheers Ian The dollars are Aussie and the bikes are Aussie delivery which in most cases are different/component wise to Yankee delivery.
