Why bother? Go buy a newish DRZ400E and pep it up a little. I had one and it would leave your poor DR500 for dead. Scared a few friends who wanted to take it for a littlle spin as well. Looked good next to the CBR and was lot of fun in the wet...

I have since put a full yoshi pipe on the 400 and opened up the airbox as well as confirming the jetting in the FCR was correct. It's like a new bike just by getting a bit more air through the engine. They're a dime a doz on trade me, plus flicking your one on...

or you could get some quick change blinkers and stuff for the 500 and throw it around offroad, you would still get a good price for your 250 and up grade to the 350. ive only seen conversion kits go up to 280-290cc.
theres always a few old 350's floating around on terdme.
