ZZR250 vs GSX250F

Hello everyone,

The big questions are which bike out of ZZR250 and GSX250F is a more comfy ride for weekend rides and occasional city riding? Which one has more performance?

It needs to be a sports tourer as I need to be comfy and have a bag fitted on the back.

I am not that mechanical where bikes are concerned but just want something that will be quick enough to get past cars if needed and comfy.

I know that there is plenty of info on the net, but I would like to get some information from people who have accually been on these bikes.

Any suggestins would help, thanks.

would stay clear of ZZR250 ...lacks performance. Oh and also, camshafts go on them like once a year or something! (mechanic told me!)

Nice bike to ride, looks bigger than it is but wont get you much further than 140km/ph unless your going downhill!!

Fantastic bike to learn on, but if youv had one before you will outgrow it within a couple of weeks...

dont know much about the other bike though... sure someone on here has one though!

i like the zzr 250. real comfy. not really really gutless but it depends on what you are used to. The gsx250 (not gsxr250) is one big pile of shite. I borrowed one once. Took it out on the open road. Pinned the throttle then got off and rolled a smoke and walked up the road waiting for it to catch up with me. This was a late model one too. I wouldn't worrry too much about getting a speeding ticket. just get a really tinted helmet for when cyclists pass you.

I first had an fxr150 then a ZZR250. ZZR250 is much more comfortable and also has more torque and power, saying that it's a heavy bike and compared to inline4s it's slow.... and did I mention heavy? also top speed will be around 150 - 160 when flatout depending on your weight... It's a nice bike to learn on though, clutch behaviour is fairly predictable, and because its heavy it's less (if at all) likely to wheelie when you accidently drop the clutch...

just as a comparison, when I first got my fxr150 it's such a light bike that I wheelied it off the lights everytime (unintentionally) didn't think much of it until I landed backwards on my ass one day....

Oh and the ZZR250 also has really slow throttle response... I suppose it maybe a good thing for a beginner (not sure) but it will annoy the fuck out of you very very soon.

Saying that ZZR250 is comfortable and I have done Palmy to auckland in 5.5 hours with 2 stops and auckland to palmy in 5.5 hours with 3 stops. It's quite comfortable around 130-140.

compared to my last bike, yamaha FZX250 ...the ZZR is gutless. only had it 6 months and allready looking to upgrade to at least a 600cc if not 1000cc if something takes my fancy!

ZZR is a nice bike in it's own right, but as i said if youve riden a bike before you will miss the acceleration!

oh, the weight thing- yeah i guess it would be 'heavy' for a 250, doubt it would do a wheelie if you tried! although 250s are heaps lighter than most bikes!

Since you appear to have a GSXR600, why would you be looking at 250's?

dont know much about the other bike though... sure someone on here has one though!

had a zzr for 3 1/2 years did over 40,000kms on it, never had any engine problems, and i never heard of camshaft problems, they are same motor that is in the gpx250.

140km/h you need to lose some weight, or your zzr is gutless, i have been two up on my old zzr and gone faster than that.

in reply to what MSTRS asked... Yes I did have a GSXR600 but had to sell it due to a few problems and the insurance was a little to high.

Now my problem begins with the fact that my wife wants to get her bike licence but is restricted to a 250 until she gets on her opens. I want to upgrade to a sports tourer but we can only get the one bike at this time...

See my problem? I want a larger bike, but then my wife would not be able to ride it.

I will suffer from the pain of an under powered bike... for at least another 2 years, once I finish study I will then get myself another bike and let the wife keep the slug.

I just want a comfy reletivly "quick" 250

This situation is killing me... trust me, I dont like it.

if i lost any weight i'd be just bones! hahaha! at 140 its sitting on about 9/10 revs, dont want to blow up the engine! hahaha!

As I recall, zzr250 is quite happy up to 13000 or 14000rpm or whatever the redline is?

The EL250 Eliminator (cruiser) also uses the same engine - I had Yungatart's up to 140 no trouble with a bit left. ZZR/GPZ or X would have slightly higher gearing I would think. They are strong little engines
