Insurance company not notifying you of cover period ending?

I was leafing through my Important Stuff drawer yesterday, and came across my insurance policy. Says on it: cover period 2x June 2005 til 2x June 2006. As it is now almost November, I've been riding for a good 4 months without 3rd party insurance.
    ...
    EDIT

My bad - cover's already been paid. Kiwibike Insurance fixed it all up, and yes, if I hit your Merc, I would've been able to pay

So thanks to the guys at Kiwibike, green bling for you.

Probably missing in mail or the office junior couldnt be bothered. Classic insurance. Asked for a quote from them 2 months ago, got reply from Mark? saying he'd passed it over to Kirsty? havent heard a thing since and I'm not chasing them. AMI will give me coverage for about $570 so they get the money.

Motig - try Classic again (ask for Abby), If you are over 30 that is. Their cover really is comprehensive and was over $150pa less than State for me
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yeah I got a notification mine was about to expire about a month ago, gave me a good 6 weeks notice. If they let you run out totally shop around.

And with mine, now I've just ticked over 25 everything is cheap as hell! I love it.

    Easy solution: Direct Debit.

Unless it's in the contract they have no obligation to inform you. If they don't it either means they stuffed up or that they don't want your business. Either way I'd look elsewhere. After 5 months your chances on a claim would be less than jack and shit. And jack's left town.

They dont have a "Legal" requirement to tell you however most do to retain customers.

Suggest you phone then and check what address they have?

Classic cover only insure over thirtys..

    Try Star Insurance

Like WoF reminders - people tell me I'm responsable if they get a ticket because I didn't send them a reminder...duh.

Actualy I have to ask their permission to send a reminder - I'm not allowd to use the personal information they supply (name and address) for my own gain, like repeat business.I wonder if it's the same for the insurance companies - maybe you could sue them for invasion of personal privacy for sending you a reminder unasked?

    Are you sure Motu?

I get unsolicited reminders all the time and hate it. Especially if the reminder is for something they didn't do last i.e. if they fixed the suspension, why remind me about the WOF! It's not even remotely related to the work order they handled.

Anyway, unless the unsolicited letter is about workshop relocation, the company runs a very high risk of getting black listed and losing my future custom.

Comes under the Privacy Act - the contact information is given to me as part of the LTNZ requirements, they are not MY details to use. They have to ask your permission to use the information for their business use.

Nah I was with Kiwibike insurance, (Swann?)
Guess it's time to start shopping then.
If I pay for cover on my fxr for another year, then get a new bike, do they discount my old cover from the new bike cover?

So who's best? 17 yo, FXR150, no convictions. Gimme a quote if you work for an insurance company.

My insurance company never sent me any notification letter/email or anything. Thanks! So what would've happened if I'd hit a Merc? Since they didn't really tell me my cover's over, yeah I know it's my responsibility, but shouldn't they send you something if they want to keep a customer?
If you are insured through a broker, they usually send out a renewal notice a month in advance to allow you the opportunity to check the coverage and make any alterations to the policy, if any.

    OOps, sorry Kiwibike Insurance!

    Well, I was wrong
Turns out my cover has already been paid for this year!
Got a call from Dave at Kiwibike Insurance, informing me that my policy was still current, and I'd paid on the 14th of June! (Mysterious payer of policies lurks about, probably in my parents armchairs)

So I got it wrong! (Yes, apparently it's possible)
Big ups to the guys at Kiwibike, great rates ($175 pa)
Should always ring your insurance company before posting about them on a public forum...

    Thanks KI,
