Back when we still had the 250 Virago in the garage, there used to be a great stunt I'd pull.
If I was out on a "battery-charging" ride, there is a nice, sweeping set of major "A" roads that I get to use as one of my daily commuter runs. And of course, this means I know how the timings of the lights on the stop before you get onto these roads....
So what I'd do, if I was approaching and saw the lights change, was time my approach so that I'd hit the front just as the lights changed... which meant I shot past any boy racers, but with momentum already there so I had a head start.
Can you imagine how annoyed they were by this tiny cruiser thing roasting them at the lights? So you'd hear the screech of car tyres as they'd set off in pursuit...
Now the XV250 isn't exactly the fastest thing out there, but given a head start it'll hold them for a time - enough time for me to back off just as I reach the (working) speed camera. So I brake to legal speeds... boy racer thinks he is really catching me now and puts in an extra 'spurt'... and FLASH... off goes the camera and he has a ticket on the way in the post![]()
That said, on the same stretch of road there is a downhill right hander, that straightens, heads uphill then banks left into another downhill. It is controlled entry and exit speed before and after by cameras (sound idea as there is a slip road in the middle as well to make life even more tricky, it is off-camber also). Given that this is a tricky bit of road to take well, I like to be able to set myself up for it. So if some boy racer sits up my backside, if I can I'll stick to limit on the downhill and into the first bend, then accellerate through the straight and move over lane and brake before the second camera... and FLASH... off it goes again!
Reckon I catch one every other month with that move... serves them right for tailgating and not realising that a bike will pull away, but be able to back off easily in these situations.
The rest of the time, I do what Pixie said and totally ignore them. Best thing to do with anyone that craves attention, they really don't know how to handle it.
