Sunday 5th November - Where Did You Ride Today and What Did You Practise?

Morning run over the Haywards down to Pauatahanui Inlet for coffee, then headed back towards Haywards and took Moonshine Road [left] to Upper Hutt. A narrow winding road and when reaching the top a good view across to the other hill that is not far away however quite a drop off the road along the top.

This was a first ride along the Moonshine Road and numerous factors came into play: blind narrow bends, the occasional gravel/stones on the tar seal, of course the cyclist[s] only a few. So throttle control and keep the suspension pretty much 'calm' no diving in on the front brake. Good opportunity to focus on counter steering and two step vision turns.

A pox day today. And her employer has spirited Mrs H away, so it's time to catch up on some chores and see what's happening in Bikerland.

Just got back from a blast around Makara. Practised overtaking and avoiding gravel and potholes.
Yesterday, over the Taka's for an ice cream and back.

Last night up through Tretham over the Wallacevill Hill into Whitemans Valley, looked like a mini war going on with sky rockets and stuff appearing here there and everywhere.

Practise: in the twilight to dark was conscious of different riding strategy.

Nowt planned for the bike today but yesterday.....had the most fun on a bike in ages doing the Thunder Run at the Maitai/Nelson Rally. What a blast to be on the road with several hundred other bikes - mostly big cruisers. Thunder all right. Bloomin ground was shaking in the start queue. Nice to have the traffic held back for the very illegal speeds reached around the back blocks of Nelson and surrounds. Then the obligatory bike-porn-fest at the end. Good show guys/girls. May you all arrive safely back at your destinations when it wraps up today.

Oh, what did I practise? Following too closely and some dodgy formation riding...

Came down from Coromandel and just got home. Had the pleasure of JTZZR dropping in home to say hi at lunchtime - he was doing the Loop. What did I learn? (Re-learn actually). There is a rule that guys with moustaches driving 4x4's own the road, never pull over to let you past and block you if they possibly can. This rule is almost 100% foolproof.

no-where today! Had to help parents do spring cleaning on house, before I head up to the ol'fish and chippie to give them a hand for a few hours. Yesterday, just taking bike into 'Treads to get a new rear tyre and did general maintenancing (oh, yeah - did get to take the bike back through some twisties to scrub the rear in though! )

Tightened up brake play, adjusted clutch play, lube, electrical system check and a polish.

not very far. had to work...
finished at 5, couldnt be stuffed goin straight home, so thought id give the v-go a real run.
bar vibration starts at 80k, and gets worse the higher the speed...at about 90k, the whole front of the bike is going, including footpegs.
once you hit about 101k, the vibes just stop...they are gone. dunno how or why, but thats the way they is.
110k no worries with this bike. rather unnerving not having a rev counter, but she didnt feel bad at 110. had her nearly at 120 i think, but rolled her back.
took her as far as warrengate road [just before whangahu] and back into town via the backroads. bloody windy up there! was gonna turn off at the okoia hill, but its poorly marked and i missed the corner. too dangerous a road to turn back.

saw 4 bikes heading back into town...got waves out of them all, lol.
im sure all the cagers thought i was nuts...was howlin and had this huge grin on my face. lol. shes a very smooth bike, and seems to keep her steam goin uphill. was gonna try the whangahu hill, but wouldnt have had a very big run up, and would have still been changing gear.

When on Mavericks 250 run .. i was TEC so i did some pratice hanging off the bike in the twisties

Didn't go far today....just a quick blast down to Mangawhai with Duc-Gurl to meet the Maha's for a liquid lunch and then onto the Puhoi Pub for afternoon tea then back up here to Whangarei...about 200kms+
Practiced riding a new style/body position on a newly tuned and re-geared bike. Learnt a bit and think I may have even found a better style that suits me and my bike. Freck'n wrapped.
All I need now is a decent twisty outing...wonder what the weather is doing tomorrow?

Shot out to Terbang's place yesterday, a couple of cups of coffee, then he had to go to work, so back home with him in tandem till my turnoff - about 110K round trip, and a very nice day to ride...
(apart from the un-signposted roadworks scattered around the Franklin district presently )

Did the Track day on 5th Nov at Taupo.

Then followed the missus and El Dopa's trailered bandit back to Auckland.

Not a bad day's riding for day 3 as a restricted licence holder!
