Having ridden at Pukekohe today for the first time since the revised armco was completed (through the left hander before coming over the hill) I think we all owe Gary Devon at the track a big thank you.
He's pushed hard to get this sorted out for everyones benefit and the net result is the complete removal (by accident by his fork lift!) of the offending armco and the replacement fence being placed in a much safer position.
The new barrier is much further away from the track and has a deep padded/tyre barrier in front of the armco. This has to make that part of the track the safest it's been for as long as I can remember!
Gary say's he got into some real s*** over this but it's all worked out for the best for everyone and particularly the bikes.
He also says anyone riding a bike there owes him a dozen DB Draught (his favourite) for his efforts that include;
The 'accidental' removal of the problem armco by forklift
The construction of the new armco mcu further away from the track
The placement of the padding/tyre barrier in front of the new barrier
So if any of you are heading to Pukekohe for a ride... in the interests of Gary looking after all of us further let's all shout Gary a beer or 12!
