    Resurrecting this thread... as the Barbarian is ADR certified and heading for the export market in the US and elsewhere. The latest iteration can have an all-alloy engine, there's fuel injection soon (and maybe a supercharged version later...).

    The Boss doesn't chew through tires unless / until you slam the throttle open and hit the NOS. Doing that you can shred a tire in a burnpit of course. But with average road riding and despite the occasional wrecklessly excessive use of throttle a tire is usually good for 8-10k.

    I went over and rode the Barabarian V8 demo bike earlier this year, when our shop was looking at the NZ agency for it.

    1. Torque reaction is nothing to worry about - it feels not much more at standstill than an old BMW (obviously is more - just doesn't feel it);

    2. The hand clutch operation could do with some improvement, though the foot clutch operation is good when you remember it;

    3. Having only the one gear badly limits top speed;

    4. Acceleration for open-road passing is quite good, though most big sports bikes would leave it steaming, I suspect;

    5. There is also a bad vibration in the tail when accelerating at about 130 km/hr (couldn't quite work this one out - it might just have been its puny little final drive chain and sprockets protesting).

    We would have been prepared to take on the agency, but could not negotiate terms suitable to us in the end.

    And I agree with Dangerous - the Drysdale V8 is just awesome. I've been in Ian Drysdale's factory - and not many people can say that - and think it is a shame that his machines have not been commercialised more.

    Thats interesting to hear that. I have built my own V8 bike which is a single speed manual but has none of those traits. Open the throttle at 130 K's and it does nothing other than accelerate...HARD with no vibes at all and is geared for 50 kmh per 1000 revs. So far ive had it up to 5500 rpm and its not at its limit,altho without a screen you catch the wind something fierce.
