    Cool

When passing trucks whether they are coming towards me or me overtaking them...... I always give them a wide berth for the reason that I dont want to be sucked under the truck.

Heal up well...... and I am sure you will in time be back on a bike again.

    You are one lucky fella.
It's good to read that you avoided the worst that could happen - can't imagine what that would have felt like.

You lucky, lucky bastard! well done in coming out of this so well, I suggest a small sacrifice to whatever gods and angels were looking after you! lol
take your time in making your decision about riding again, also a lesson here for newer riders I think, if you know you don't feel ready for the road, don't go there.
    Glad you are ok.

Holy shit. Sorry to hear about the damage to yourself and your machine, but the important thing is you're still around to tell the story.

Shit The truck may have crossed the line a bit as it turning & if you were close to it the forces can blow/suck you in.
Lost a friend like that on a cycle years ago in a freak accident. You are one lucky dude. Speedy healing.

You must choose your days over that hill . The wind is worse than the rain. It can come from any direction and in gusts. Another tip for the inexperienced , go early or mid week and avoid the traffic. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people trying to scratch over there midday on a Sunday !!!!!!!!!!!! thats dumb ! G.

Were you an under-utilised cat in a past life?? Man you were lucky. And I'm sure that story will get embellished as time passes....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Saw the picture in 'Image Browser' and feared the worst...
Great to hear that you came out of it alive~

Every rider (and I mean EVERY) rider has an off at some point - you've had your eye-opener so you might be alright from now on. Hope it doesn't put you off riding forever.

...only stupid mistake is the one you don't learn from yaddayaddayadda...

Oh yeah, and welcome to the 'Rimutaka Road Crashers Club' - you passed the entrance exam with flying colours

Passed with honours I would have thought. I was up there at the same time but from the other side yesterday and it was a tad on the gusty side.

    That looks terrifying mate.

That corners a tricky one sometimes. I've found myself coming into it a little bit hot at times and you have to really work to get around. And if the winds gusting like it can do on that road its another nasty variable.

In my (relatively short) experience on that road, you need to pick your days. I was guna do Masterton, Matinborough, Summit and back to Masterton on Sunday, but the wind was horrible so only did Mstn and Mtb return.

Glad your here to tell the story, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
