Oil spill on 10km-stretch of SH1

Police are advising motorists to drive carefully after an oil spill on State Highway 1 north of Auckland this morning.

Inspector Gavin MacDonald said the oil spill occurred along a 10km stretch between Wellsford and north of Warkworth.

Police and the local council were on the scene and a clean up was under way, he said.

Police said later the highway was cleared and the truck driver responsible for the spill had been dealt with by the highway patrol.
