Not that it really makes a pinch of shit worth of difference, but for me it was a cop. Might have been on the LTNZ's behalf, but he was a cop none the less.

Sorry, I must confess that I havent phoned LTNZ to confirm this . . . the patrol car and his uniform were pretty strong clues however!

Shrug. The cop that ticketed me most recently and told me about the potential licence removal said that it'd be the LTNZ. Having not had it actually happen, I can't comment further.

Reckon I'll just shut up now, anyway. If anyone particularly cares, call the cops, call LTNZ, get the straight dope. Everything you read on the interweb is probably wrong, anyway. Particularly if I wrote it.

just spoke to a cop outside the office.

he'll come and get it if the LTSA can't find you.

and if he can't find you then he'll have to call The A Team.

Ya follow, shit I wrote and im not sure I do.
So how do all the ding-a-lings who cruise around with a car load of mates in a clapped out 323 Mazda get demerits if they never pay any of their $12,000 worth of fines? Each breach of their learners is 25 demerits and $400.

There's a point - in the UK they just jail you for not paying the fine for not having a drivers licence at all but there does seem to be a comparatively laisser faire attitude in New Zealand where they don't really seem to take traffic offences as being criminal offences - so if you ride your big block harley down the street without any licence at all...what happens? Just a fine since there's no where to record the demerits? Or do they store your demerits against the day where you might just get a drivers licence?

    So much angst.

here is the law about demerit points:
From the Land transport Act 1998 Part 7 Sect 88
(4)Demerit points recorded under subsection (1) have effect on and from the date of the commission of the offence for which the points are recorded.

[[(5)For the purposes of subsections (1) and (4), if an infringement fee is paid to the enforcement authority at the address for payment specified in the infringement notice before or within 28 days after service of a reminder notice for that offence or within 5 days after the expiry of that 28-day period, the following provisions apply to an infringement offence:

(a)the date on which the infringement notice was issued is to be treated as the date on which the offence was committed; and

(b)a summary conviction for the offence is to be treated as having been entered against the offender on the date of the payment of the infringement fee.]
So, UNLESS YOU CONTEST THE INFRINGEMENT NOTICE (by writing and saying you are not guilty and you want a court hearing) ; and are found not guilty, then the demerit points will be entered with date effective from the day you were issued the infringment notice.

It's nothing to do with PAYING the fine. If you've been fined, then the points will be entered with a date of the ticket date.Even if you never pay one cent of the fine the points will be recorded.

If you really want to delay things a bit you can contest the ticket. But, when you are found guilty by the court the points will be added on and backdated to the date of the ticket.

Ah, jolly good. Wonder why I didn't think to look it up?

Suppose I might as well pay that fine, then...

so will have to wait and see i guess!
issue a summons for what? you badly need to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about.
