I would like to say that Spudchucker needs a vote he has a lot of guts fessing up as a traffic cop and taking all the crap on the chin
hes getting a bit cynical lately and we need his input and contribution firstly hes a biker the fact he is a cop is secondary to that and traffic cops do see some pretty nasty road kill. I would rather have him onside than offside so let give some spudchucking apprechiation. whos in?

Geez Louise... Who'd admit to being a cop straight up? There's always some wanker who's going to get in your ear about their last speeding ticket (always unjustified) or how the cops didn't turn up to the "great burglary of '82", or how some cop beat up their brother...

Despite all our bitching and moaning we have a pretty efficient, effective and largely uncorrupt police force in New Zealand. These guys and gals have got enough on their plates without the general public giving them a hard time over trivial matters. They're doing their jobs. Let them get on with it.

The only 2 tickets I have had on my bike in recent times were both bloody silly and at the time, while I was most polite to the oficer, I was seething inside.. however, looking back on it now, both we possible Monty Python skit material.

1. Coming home from a mates wedding in Motueka with a totally evil hangover and came up behind one of those poxy white vans that infest the highways and by ways of this fair land.. belching diesel so I pulled a swift passing move and forgot to button off... What a funny place to park a car i thought.. Dumb ass!

What was funny was the droll lecture on the side of the road issued in a dead pan monotone voice. "The road toll must come down sir. We particularly have a problem with middle aged men on large motorcycles" MIDDLE AGED (I'm old mate) LARGE motorcycles?? My 850cc vintage Guzzi produces 57 RWHP. Not exactly a GSCR1000 is it?

2. 8:45pm in the middle of NOWHERE going from raumati to Napier on a wednesday night. Pinged for 120 passing a truck doing 110. bum! @ in the car, takes my license back to the car, probably pulls up more data on me than my wife knows and still comes back to ask me. "Have you even been in trouble with us before sir?" HELLO! What is he expecting me to say? Yes, I'm a drug courier for the mob and I have 2 severed heads in the left hand pannier.

Sheesh! (in fact he didn't really want an answer 'cos they were headed home for dinner)

It's got to be a good thing to have dialogue with the police,and to have a policeman who is a biker as well...it's all good. So Spud's involvement in this forum is to be nurtured, as we would nurture a little flower....

Problem is it's so easy to cross the line between calm reasoned dialogue and rabid fascist jack-booted .....oops....

But seriously, who wouldn't want a policeman to be his friend?????

Thanks Redstar but lets clear one thing up, I'm not a traffic cop as in I'm not Highway Patrol or any other type of dedicated traffic unit. I work in General Duties and they are expected to do traffic work but it is not their primary function. If my posts appear cynical on here, don't worry because it has no effect at all on how I do my job on the street.

I spent 6 months in the watchhouse and it was nearly the end of my sanity.

Next time I have a day off and its a track day then I will come and say hi.

I`m very pro-police despite several run-ins in my younger days,they get loads of crap thrown there way in this country mainly by those who`d shit themselves if anarchy was allowed to reign.My problem`s with the courts that let the scum off with light sentences,not the guys who risk life and limb getting them in front of some senile old cretin in the first place.I`ve twice had lifts from Cops when I`ve run out of petrol(which could have got them in loads of trouble) and got off more times than I deserve when I`ve been pulled,ironically my only points came from some lying arsehole who was a disgrace to humanity let alone his uniform.Bike cops here in particular are fair blokes,all are bike fanatics,they have to be to get the job,and unless you`ve done something totally stupid you`ll more often than not get a bollocking rather than booked.These guys do loads of off-duty stuff,assessments,marshalling bike events e.t.c.O.K. so there are the odd bad apples,I know a young guy just got in that should never,ever have got through selection.I speed all the time,if I get caught it`s my fault not the guy who caught me.

I have always supported the presence of the Po-leece on this site. Specially for their opinions on things as a cop and their knowledge of the law. Other than that, they are people who are into bikes just like everyone else here so why push them away?

Agreed. I'd also say that having cops on here to rebut the more, uh, 'outlandish' posts stops too much of an 'us and them' situation developing. And the cops get a feel for what a reasonable-ish cross-section of the public is thinking.

That sort of two-way communication used to be called community policing in the UK.
