    Starting up

Hi i'm 13 and I was looking at starting dirt biking. What would be a good bike in terms of cc's to start with?

Wow, there's a multitude of answers for this question . . . I'm gonna make some wild assumptions here tho, that you are around average size/weight for your age, that you are looking at trail riding, and that you have no previous experience.

For a beginner, you really will find it easier on a four stroke rather than a two stroke. Less power for the same cc, but its a lot more progressive and easier to control. I'd say you want a minimum of 100cc, and dont go for one of the bikes with small wheels. If you were to go for a 150-200, then it should last you a bit longer. The lower the cc rating though, the easier you will find it to learn on. Definitely do not go for anything over 250cc, you will find it physically too large to straddle comfortably, too heavy to throw around, and the power too twitchy to learn on.

You might find it worthwhile to get your self an old dunga to learn the basics of where the controls are and how they work to begin with, and then once you have that mastered flick it off and trade up to something a bit newer and flasher. It will also give you chance to work out which style of dirt biking you want to get into, trail riding, adventure riding, trials or motocross.

Good luck with it anyway, and when you are looking around get someone who is experienced with bikes to go with you.

    Welcome to KB young fella.

WRT has given you some great advise...
Others on here, like Motu, who are into that type of riding will come in and give you some more advise.
So do read what they all have to say and take it all in.

I see that you live in AK so get your guardian that you live with to take you to some of the bike shops to talk to the guys there as well.

Do get yourself a brand new helmet and some decent protective gear.
(a idea for christmas pressie's from within your family)
Make sure that the helmet fits you properly you dont want it loose on your head.

Here are two shops that I know that sell these types of bikes:
Henderson Motorcycles on View Rd, Henderson, West Auckland
Mt Eden Motorcycles on Boston Rd AK city
