I went to a local tire shop on Sunday to get some new rubber and after 2 hours, they finally got to the rear wheel and couldn't get the nut off (single swing arm). Great.

I call the Doctor (Ian) at Motorcycle Surgery (behind Motomail - College Hill) and book the bike in. Their torque wrench max's out at 300Nm and they bent it. They jump in the van and go pick up the ass kicker of wrenches and manage to get it off. Job done.

It took them 2 hours in total and they didn't charge me any labour! That's what free fitting means. Ian also gave me a great discount on Pirelli Corsa's.

Being the smart business man you are....did you give them a bit of advice on this one? Afterall,they may not be there when you return for your next tyre.Or have they overpriced their tyres in stock to cover fuckups like this?

And isn't this the nut you got a torque wrench for....were you wearing glasses at the time?

Free fitting :O having always changed my car tires myself and on the odd time when I got a shop to do it i always got free fitting... I was surprised when cycle treads charged me $300 for a $240 tire... I wasnt too worried beucase it is a big job (other wise i'd do it myself) and it does take a little bit of time, and I wasnt the one paying for it... but if you get free fitting........

isn't that nearly 400ft lbs? that's outrageously tight. even a 737 engine isn't held on that tight.

are you sure it wasn't a LEFT HAND THREAD? if the nut is on the RH side, then it probably is. many car wheel bearings are LH threaded on the rh side....

I wouldn't call myself a smart businessman, just honest, oozing with integrity. Believe it or not, it eventually pays dividends. The fuck up was not their doing and they tried their very best to get it off and when they couldn't, went out and bought the mother of all wrenches.

I required a torque wrench (thanks Edbear) for all the other nuts that rattle lose on an italian masterpiece.

Their price for the rubber was cheaper than anyone had quoted me, not that I make a habit of tire kicking - excuse the pun. I appreciate service over and above price and I get that at Motorcycle Surgery. Then I tell everybody I know and so on and so on and so on... Business is actually a very simple recipe yet so many try really hard to fail at it.

It is a left handed thread but unfortunately the guy at the "other" shop was right handed.

They have to make money somewhere along the line to pay for it.

I think Don is a little over qualified but I'd gladly invite him to join the board. Helen will be looking for a job soon but since she's never worked an honest day in her life, is dishonest, lacks integrity and ethics and would frighten the staff, I don't think she'll be considered.
