I'm going to bitch about road surfacing again so click off if you don't want to hear me whine... Fuck what an abhortion the road resurfacing is on Waioeka George, did someone take the new seal signs away too soon? Beware if your heading that way and not a local. Spoilt an otherwise great ride, Gisborne is pretty underated IMHO.

Yeah it's a real shame that they don't spend more on roading on the East Cape and the Waioeka Gorge. Those roads do get a hammering from trucks and weather tho, and add erosion and slip's. It can't be easy to keep them up to scratch aye?

The gorge is in a constant state of repair / disrepair.

I think Fulton Hogan have a full time contract to manage the surface and road which takes a constant battering from above and the river below.

Just before Labour weekend it took a massive hit and is still recovering.

You need to treat it as an unpredictable road.

Did the E Cape loop yesterday starting from Whakatane. Unfortunately one of the guys with us got a puncture between Tokomaru and Tologa Bays and by the time we got the bike onto a trailer it was late. Consequently we ended up doing the gorge at 9:30pm in tinted visors - which made reading the road surfaces difficult...We made it through safely but to take your point it would have helped to have left the signs out.

Not sure I agree with you. The road from TeAraroa and Tikitiki has been that way for years...and at least the road works signs are posted.

Yeah was great otherwise! I understand they have to repair the roads but finding loose chippings on a corner exit isn't fun. After the third or fourth patch I took it easy. Just as you thought you'd been through it there would be another patch around the corner. Some warning would have been nice. Even a general "This road is under repair" sign at the beginning and end of the works. I emailed transit but don't spose anything will happen.

Yeah mate. I've been travelling those roads at least 3 times a year for 40+ years. If there's one thing they do well on the coast is put the signs out. Te Araroa all the way to Gizzy has been rough for ever. I've always wondered about the economy of constant repair and patching versus doing the job so it doesn't subside or get washed away. Probably too expensive given the small population base. Choice roads still, just got to be careful.

It has always been that way and probably always will be, it's a shame but I guess it serves it's purpose of allowing trucks to get through and to hell with other vehicles, it's just one of those things you have to expect on the highway to hell, or is it the road to nowhere?

If it aint the roads its the animals. Dont know if you've noticed but there has been a growing number of tourists and cyclists using it over the summer time.

Was brought up in that area and have family in Whakatane and Opotiki so try to get down there as much as I can.
We're staying at Ohope over Xmas and New Year so give us a holla if you're 'loopin' that way that time.

Say that again brother. Last summer I charge around a corner trying to pull out a lead on my mate who's chasing on his Ducati, to be suprised by two dudes trying to control two suprised horses. I know way better than that too. We got to dodge lots of wandering livestock too. It seemed worse than usual.
My family are in Tikitiki but it doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to negotiate taking my bike up this christmas. My wife seems to think that making her drive up with the three kids two years in a row is cruel and unusual.
