Sorry to hear the bad news, keystone. I'm also sorry I don't have much to offer Paul apart from my best wishes for his recovery.

It's good to hear that he sounds fairly positive about this life-changing event.

If there's anything any of us on KB can do to help in a real way, please let us know.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

First thing I see when I log in this AM. Not good news. I am very sorry to hear that injury is permanent. Paul seems to be in good spirits tho, speaks for the man and the regard he is held in.
Hoping for the best possible recovery.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Paul, I have just read this and my hands are shaking, I am shocked and saddened to hear this news. You have always been a great bloke and helped me out a number of times, anything you need just ask. I will be up to visit you as soon as you are ready to receive visitors.
Your mates are all behind you and lending their support in the times ahead. Aroha to you and Jill too.

    Hey Paul

Absolutely shocked and saddened to hear about your accident. We met a few years ago out a Kaiaua and I've been keeping an eye on yours and Jill's racing threads since. All the best in your recovery, will be thinking of you

    Dude,
Tboy told me about your crash, and we hoped & prayed the next call would bring good/better news... Obviously, we're still shell-shocked.

However, you're not in this alone, which is awesome! Let us know if you ever need a room in 'Vegas

Look forward to seeing you back online...

And well done on yer fastest lap bro!...

Crashe 'phoned me last night and let me know what had happened - I am really glad to hear that you are conscious and okay - paraplegic beats quadraplegic or dead hands down. John has talked about you a lot Paul and he enjoyed meeting you. When he is well enough I will tell him what has happened to you and I'm sure that PMing will help you both as you can support each other and encourage each other as well
Jill - I don't know you but if you want someone who is going through the same thing to talk to or scream and shout to when the going gets tough, PM me - Take good care of yourself too, we also have a long road to recovery

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. I will print this off and take it in to Paul to read tonight.

A quick update. He has had a further cat scan which has confirmed the extent of his injuries and ruled out any bleeding from the aorta (main blood vessel leading to the heart). This means he is now stable enough to be transferred to a general ward in the next day or so. He will have surgery on Friday to stabilise his spine.

I will keep you all updated on here as I can.

    Jill

PS. Paul says he thought the nurses were pretty good on Sunday but you should have seen the ones on Monday...:slap:

Will be thinking of you.. & send best wishes for your recovery process.

Jill, you sound like an awesome woman, & there is a hell of a lot of support & love out there for you too.. this will be a long road for you also, so please remember to take some time out for yourself.. & make use of all the offers on here!! Thinking of you.
