    154 on a restricted

A 15 year old has apparently been caught doing 154 on his restricted.

"police were becoming increasingly concerned at the enormous risks being taken by young motorists"

    Hmmmmm.

How can a 15 yr old be on a restricted? I thought you had to be 15 to apply for a learners, and then if under 25, 18 months on L plates....? Or do I have the system wrong?

(PS - Edbear - what makes you think he was on a 250? Coulda been riding outside his license conditions...!)

    Correct!

And most 250's will do that speed - My Spada does a bit more and that's a non-performance 4-stroke V-twin. You take a ZXR or CBR, or 2-stroke, and that's a nice cruising speed - they'll do 180km/h.

Yes that's true. And with every right, comes a responsibility. If you want to do that sort of speed, do it in a responsible manner (A place with long straight roads and no traffic, or a track), it's as simple as that. Some people need to grow up a bit.

Straightline speed is nothing. Hold your speed in a corner, now that's something.

    I like his final quote......

Everyone has the right to apply for a licence - the privilege arises from passing the tests, and being able to afford to pay for the licence.

No one can just get a licence as of right - there are criteria.

but upon joining the thursday night ride on the north shore,
hav found a straight line high speed is no where near as fun or exhilerating as taking that corner at speed, n getting down low.
which i didn;t get to experience when i was 16/17 with my 250

Young motorcyclist clocked at speeds up to 154kph
    28 November 2006

The actions of a youth who rode his motorcycle at speeds of up to 154kph have been described by police as "blatantly irresponsible".

The 15-year-old motorcyclist, stopped on State Highway 16 near Wellsford, north of Auckland, yesterday, told police he was unaware he was going so fast.

Highway Patrol manager Senior Sergeant Bill Russell said that about 11.30am the youth was travelling at a speed of 154kph, in a 100kph sector when he was stopped by a road policing unit.

"He only received his restricted motor cycle licence a month ago, but now because of his reckless actions he has a mandatory 28 days riding suspension," Mr Russell said.

"He will also be charged with speeding and other offences."

Mr Russell said police were becoming increasingly concerned at the enormous risks being taken by young motorists who are on the graduate drivers licence system.

"These motorcycle riders and motorists need to be vigilant in keeping to the speed limits and to their restricted licence requirements.

"There's too many who consider their individual driving abilities to be above that of others, who are far more experienced.

"Holding a driver's licence is a privilege. . . it is not a right," he said.

A teenage motorcyclist has been grounded by police who clocked him travelling at 154km/h a month after receiving his licence.

The 15-year-old was caught on a 100km/h stretch of State Highway 16 near Wellsford on Sunday. His restricted licence was suspended for 28 days and he will be summoned to appear in court.

Police said his actions were "blatantly irresponsible".
