GN Crash Report

My first 'serious' crash, coming home on Friday night (from work ). I decided to take a different route home due to the 1km of newly sealed road. I was good until I was about 5minutes(walking distance) from home.

To fast around a sharp corner with shit lights. Ran into the grass, lowsided. I managed to stand the bike up, and walked home, with a bleeding nose. Turned up at home with blood everywhere, gave everyone a fright.

Bikes fine, the battery fell out, but that was easily fixed, frog's step dad rode it home. The forks need to be straightened, apart from that not even a scratch was on the bike. Few scratches on the helmet, blood all over my jacket, and bike. Few bruises on my legs, and a sore head, but all and all it was a lesson in mixing speed with limited vision on a tight corner.

I was told everyone who learns to ride has the 'Run wide Crash' .
Apparantly the next one Im due for is the 'Im better than Valentino Rossi crash '.

Ooof - glad to hear that was all that happened! Good on ya for not letting it get ya away from riding. No worries there, I binned it on my 2nd day out going at nana speeds ... by not making a corner too!

Long as you learn your lesson and reflect about what you did wrong, so you can do it all right! Keep riding safely - and find some mentor that can give you some tips!

Sorry to hear about crash. Did you jam the brakes on in the middle of the corner and stand the bike up? Thats what i did...took ages to learn to just lean over further.

Glad your ok! , that scenario brings back memories , except i got a gash under the eye .

Dont let it phase ya too much , think back to what happened and improve/reflect on it

All I saw was road, road, grass, grass, grass, grass. Figured grass was much like lose gravel, and held off the slamming, the long grass washed off the speed, and stopped me from hitting the fence. I even had a glimmer of hope that I could keep it upright on the grass, travelled abit through it, must of touched the brakes here to cause it to lowside.

I'm guessing it wasn't near the roadworks in the cente of Hastings then... Not much long grass around there!

I've had the 'Hit by a car who disregarded the give way rule AND a red traffic light' crash.
And the embarrassing 'Grab a handful of front brake in a rainstorm and lose the front wheel on a white line' crash.

Glad you're okay and it can be treated as merely a learning experience.

nah, The road works I mentioned were the Highway 50 resealing that finished just before valley road. That's the way I usually go home. Instead I went through bridge pa and down Raukawa road, I pretty much crashed were Valley road and Raukawa road meet.

Well I wouldn't say EVERYONE, although it is one of the more common ones.
Don't let it get you down though, jump back on and just don't do it again

Yeah Ive already had the 'you cant actually slam on the front brake with full force and expect to not be thrown off' crash. That was the very first crash. At the intersection with the sale yards, wasnt used to the traffic lights while following frog. Seems similar to your: 'Grab a handful of front brake in a rainstorm and lose the front wheel on a white line' crash. -Although it wasnt raining.
Stink about the 'hit by the car' one, have had a few close calls, with stock trucks that think they own the road ect.

Theres also the time me and Frog got hit by a Holden Minaro, luckily (or unluckily) we were in a cage. Our cage got written off, and the Minaro only needed a new front bumper. It was their fault, being in the middle of the road in a blind harpin and all.

Actually you CAN slam on the front brake with almost full force and not fall off so long as you:
a/ Practice.
b/ Keep looking straight ahead with your head up
c/ Make no attempt to move left or right while the brake is applied.
