Less material in the side plate = lower tensile strength?

    It's rated at 8,000lbs.

You cannot presume that - either part. It may have more material in the side plate, if it was thicker than normal, or taller & longer. It may be a stronger material. The stresses on the missing part of the material may be... immaterial like an I-beam vs solid.

As long as you happy with the tensile rating and other characteristics, I wouldn't give a rat's whatsit about the particulars of the shape. I've run chains like that many a time on road bikes and never noticed any difference.

Fluting on sprockets is a different matter - there's less material on the chain contact surface so they wear faster.
    Cheers,
    Colin

Had to true the TT front wheel as it was a bit wobbly this morning. Almost 5mm of lateral runout. I seem to remember a couple of "clunks" on Sat and thinking I should have maybe gone with more than 16psi...

    Well...
I may be able to make some absolutely stunning screens and dashes, but...

There's a bit much flexibility in the screen for my liking and that is accentuated by the weight of the dash and gps I had mounted to test it out.
