    Cheers
Aah, you may have a point I have a lovely bit of video taken on one such trip, 80kmh tank slapper two up. Will post when I start editing. The DT is hysterical on the gravel, never tried it two up yet, not sure if the Chancellor would be able to stay put.

You boys are all near me (i'm in westport) and so likley to join in the NADS trips (if i'm accepted). So dont wont to look completely out of place but only got about 5k to spend. Do I get a DR, KLR, KLE, or Transalp - cant afford a BMW 650, or triumph 800xc but did see a cheap honda 650 dominator on tardme.
Comments opinions arguement/debates welcome please ..........
If this shouldn't be here please direct me to the right place.
As the others have said.... a 650 is a bit cramped for 2 up, unless you want to spend $$$$ up grading the seat, suspension and giving it a bit more ooomph
KLR would be more capable IMHO, it's just that they're butt ugly
    The Dommie might be o.k.
I'd go TransAlp for 2 up without having to spend extra on extras
Also..... how are you at doing your own farkling/maintenance ? and how big is your passenger ? if he/she stood up in a small boat would it capsize ?

    thanks for all your IMHOs
so its a toss up between a trannie alp and a sickly KLR.
    and to answers \jatz's ????
have welder, lathe, saws and widgets so maintenace is not an issue
petite thankyou! - falls asleep on the back of the \vfr - \i have to strap her down
in a canoe yes in a 10'tinny unlikely, now you have that picture in your mind does that alter your opinion on what bike \i should be getting?

You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.
And now a third thing a bloody big gun to shoot theives with!

If doing 2 up on a klr you will need a stiffer spring cos the standard one is barely adequate one up. About $90usd.

And they are not butt ugly, upper torso ugly maybe but not quite butt level. And they can be ridden in knarly stuff.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

You got a spare used 21 inch 705 in the emporium? I wouldn't mind trying one on Schmidt when the knobs finally fall of the front

It'd only done 7,500km when I got it and I put on another 2,500km when I put the Acewell on.
So the chassis has now done 110,000km...

Got an oil leak/weep from somewhere on the engine cases...
Thought it might be a crack from a DB1K rock but no signs of that.
The cases underneath seem nice and clean and the centre case gasket is fine.

I've a sneaking suspicion it's the output shaft seal.

How long are these things meant to last?

    It's only done 80,000km

You might get a few more revs out of the seal, at that age it's quite likely to be the shaft itself.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

    Whew!

It's the stator cover gasket, right on the lowest bolt. Some Permatex gasket maker goo fixed it
