ill be their for sure (someone has to run it), this year should be even better with a loop set up, we will be on the side of the road that has the big bog in, we hope to beat our record entry numbers which is at the moment is 597 riders.
Definitely won't be there. Waitemata MCC has a family day on in Woodhill so will be there helping out & suffering after the ISDE (no, not riding, just helping out). Have a good event Scott & hope to make it to some of the rides this year (esp. Waikaretu).
It's an institution for me, I've gone every year (except one) since I started trail riding & it was my first official "trail ride". Scotty and the team from Mr Motorcycles organise a good ride & Glenn Murray is a great one, especially if you're new to the scene. Looking forward the new loop fomat as well. Hoping it will be the first ride a new bike for me this year cause I reckon it's a good one for running it in.
Scotty, are you just running one loop all day? Sounds like the one that was traditionally the after lunch run?
yeah we are running one loop all day and this year it will be the afternoon one from the last few years, the plan is to change them year on year so next year we we run the traditional morning loop, it took a bit of work to get the farmers to agree but we believe it will be better for everyone.
is it easy enough for beginners?
all Mr Motorcycles rides are set up for novice - intermedaite riders, it will be fine as long as it is not wet
The GNCC is on the same weekend so unfortunately i'm going to miss it.
Cheese, it great for beginners, even if it's wet (as long as you have good rear tyre). It was the first ride I did when I first started playing in the dirt! I had only been playing around on the local subdivision before that ( what is now botany town centre ). I rocked up with a 1986Yamaha XT250 with about 5 cm of rear suspension travel and had a blast! Went with 3 other first timers that day and they all got the bug too. Got a few cheeky comments about my new helmet and boots being worth more than my bike though!
I also think the loop planned for this year is the easier of the two that have run in the past.
I'm sweet as it's my wife I was worried about. She had a put around at woodhill today up and down the road. It was fuckign funny she gave it a heap of gas and put the mighty XR100 into gear without pulling the clutch in. She popped a bit of a wheelstand and just about smacked into someons ute.
I think that she needs a bit more practive as bumps and hills still freak her out.
I saw you guys there today, good on her for having a go, probably need a nice flat open paddock to practise on first.
she was freaking out and said she felt stupid, but I said at least you're out here giving it a go while the other guys GFs are at home! She felt better after I said that. She was hung over too so that didn't help.....
she was probably abit embarssed with all the other people around, but most of us bike riders think its cool when someone is giving it a go.
You could take her to thunder x, theres a big paddock up the top she could practise in and no one else normally ever goes up there.
yeah we will go there next time I think. She was worried about people looking at her and not paying attention to what she was doing. She has been buzzing about it now and I think she is quite keen to get back on the bike. so that's all good.
