Well it is Official the GS1200ss is Dead

Got a call from the mechanic with a price for the repair $9000 to repair a $7000 bike.

I have a feeling the insurance will write it off.

I haver done the RF thing the GSXR thing and now the GS thing. What next - maybe a Bandit??

$9000 to repair a $7000 bike? That suggests it is now worth -$2000. Tell your insurance compnay I'm prepared to save them $2000 and simply take it off their hands for no charge.

Having looked at the photos there is no way that the damage is worth $9000, maybe $2000 tops.
    Time to ride

    He is hot dead.

Ended up with broken bones (leg and shoulder) and a collapsed lung. He reckons he can't remember the accident (he was unconcious for a while) but accepts he may have been doing a U turn as that is where he usually does them. But is denying resposibility for the accident to the insurance company and as yet the police haven't made any decisions.

So at this stage it looks like a $700 excess and loss of no claims bonus til it is sorted (if it is sorted).

Insurance has been good - replaced all my protective gear already - just have to wait for the money for the bike so I can get me a new one

It is at davidsons in Alex - so go and talk sweetly to them - the back tire had only done a trip from Dunedin to Queenstown.

But all the fairing, mounts and plastic had to be replaced, the exhaustes clutch plate covers etc - the engine stripped and cleaned as the engine is full of dirt - and the front forks replaced.

So it adds up and me not having all the gear or expertise to fix it - I have to leave it to the experts

Wow. I've got to get in on this mechanic game. Stuff university and degrees...

That said, I'd go out of business if I tried to fix something... after my clumsy attempts at fixing my thumper... all my customers would have seized engines

Don't be fooled grasshopper... there is as much learning both ways... but at the end of the day it can be a lot more satifying to work with your hands

Bike will definitely be written off!! Go for a Bandit - I have had absolutely no mechanical problems at all - very easy and comfortable to ride. While my bike was written off it was only for cosmetic damage - absolutely no structural damage at all.
    Good luck
