I will soon to be a new Kawasaki owner. Now I was just wondering about the bike I am buying.

It's a 1989 Kawasaki ZX-10... Do any of you own one or know someone that own one and what do you think about it?

I HAD ONE , WONDERFULL BIKE FASTER THAN A 92 BLADE IN A STRAIGHT LINE , GOOD WHEELSTAND BIKE ME33 WAS THE TYRE TO USE ON THE FRONT BACK THEN , I DONT KNOW IF THEY STILL MAKE THEM , THOSE ENGINES ARE ROBUST AND EASY TO WORK ON, EG THE CAM CHAIN RUNS DOWN THE LHS OF THE MOTOR WITH MINIMAL TOOLS YOU CAN DO A CAM CHAIN IN 1 HOUR , THEY ARE SHIMED HEAD SO VALVE ADJUSTMENTS ARE A BIT HARDER THAN ON THE 1000 RX PREDECESOUR BUT WORTH IT CAUSE IT ALLOWED KAWASAKI TO GO TO CVKD SEMI DOWN DRAUGHT STYLE CARBS, I LOVE THOSE BIKES THEY GROWL THRU THE AIRBOX

When you say just a filter do you mean, a K$N filter that fits in to the air box like the normal paper one?

Big old brute and very cheap in the U.K.,where that kind of thing goes for bargain prices.Very powerful,handles like a truck.Vibrates,eats chains and tyres and check under the plastics for crash damage,just replacing them is cheaper than fixing a bent or damaged frame and it`s not unknown for the unscrupulous to do exactly that.Chronic carb-icing problems but probably not an issue in N.Z. and if it is you can buy stuff to stick in the tank these days that`ll sort it.Far from cutting edge these days but a lot of fun and cheap,dont expect CBR or ZXR type handling or you`ll be picking it out of the trees pretty soon,can still hold it`s own in a straight line against most things though but not with worn bearings please or you`ll learn all about tank-slappers and which washing powder really shifts those "stubborn stains".Great choice but be aware of it`s limitations or it might well bite your arse.

Thanks for the comments. I took her for a ride a few days ago and I was very impressed with her. Yes... She won't corner like the latest ZX-10 and NO... she's not as light as the latest.

BUT... Then she is also not as small as the latest one. I am 6'4" and I look like and idiot on a small bike. The ZX-fits me perfect. And compared to the ZZR's she is a bit cheaper and has almost the same horses.(I think the ZZR1100 used almost the same motor with a longer stroke )

You are spot on with the handling. She is resalable, but then again with our national speed limit of a 100km/h about any classic bike handles okay around our million little bends...

I took the ZX-10 to work today to get it's WOF & Rego.

After getting used to Guzzi lately, damn the ZX-10 is quick !!!
For an '89 machine, she fairly moves !!
But as Degrom says you get '89 handling technology too. You have to be the boss of her and if you ride her like that, your fine.
