    First bike

Hey guys i have about 3K to spend at the most.
I want a dual purpose bike so i can take it into the firebreaks with my bro and cousins (hehe i know its illegal but ya know :P).
Ive looked at a NXR125 and a XR200 so far
NXR125 is too basic in my dad's oppion with only a 19Inch Steel! front wheel and a couple other things.
I need a bike what can easily be reg'd and wof'd
And it needs to be somewhat new (within 6-8 years old max)
Any suggestions on what models i should search out?

    Cheers
    Newbie... Kyle :P

XR200 is a good choice, also look at DR200, DT175, XT225. they all can be road legal.

    Cheers

    Listen to Clint.....
Make sure you buy a bike that is already road legal and warranted, don't dick around with off road bikes trying to legalise them, it costs too much.
My picks would be Dr200/250 or yamaha 225.

    Good luck.

If you can stretch another $400 there's a '95 CRM250 Mk3 on TradeMe at the moment. If it's as good as the Mk4 it'll see you right for a long time.

Otherwise XR's are supposed to be a good solid bet.

    Ditto to Clint & Crisis
    I presume you're restricted to 250?
And your Dad is right re NXr125 - you'll get bored with it very quickly if you have much riding talent. I suspect they won't age well either and will lose more value than a good second hand XT225 or one of the others mentioned, plus, if you are using it on the road it will struggle to keep up with highway traffic and thats just F'ing dangerous.
