Hey, Is $1800 for a 1989 FZR250 which needs a VIN any good?
It has around 40000km on the clock and needs next to no work on it, except maybe a front tire. I took it for a blat and it runs well.
$1800 a total rip or a good deal???

Average. Get them to VIN/register and increase the price to cover that cost. Protect yourself. There may be a good reason the owner has not done that.
Unless you are going to race it in F3
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
Depends - why does it need a VIN?
Rego lapsed, or was the bike written off?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Im guessing because the rego lapsed. Because it certainly doesnt look like its been written off. Its got no damage other then the fact that i think someone has bent the front plastic screen. But its fine. What difference would it make anyway? I know its going to cost like $400 to get back on the road for the vinning. The guy im planning on getting it off was going to get it back on the road but hasnt had the time by the sounds of it ( he owns a bike shop anyway )
If the bike has been damaged and ordered off theroad, then you wont be able to get it back on. Remember, a damaged frame isnt always easy to spot

Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Of course you can, it just needs to be repaired properly.
Anything less than 3K on the road is a bargin with todays market so I'd say if it can get a VIN and checks out ok you got yourself a deal. Makes me wonder why this guy hasn't done it though, especially if he is a dealer. 1500 loss by selling it to you.
ok dude wisen up...lift plus anyone??
he owns a bike shop
he knows about bikes
he hasn't got it vinned cos there is something wrong with it.
if it was an easy fix he would have got it vinned and sold it to some sucker for 4G at his shop.
tell him its an old piece of shit with high kms and he should give it to ya for a grand, stick sum gpr's on it and trash it round the track
I dont think he is a dealer. He owns a wreckers/workshop place which sells farm bikes and stuff as well. He doesnt even have his learners licence. He told me he bought the bike to learn to ride on and get his licence with but he has never got around to it. He hasnt owned the place that long, like 8 months, so he has probably been very busy ( i guess. ) He told me his plan was to get it back on the road to learn on, it just never happened. I am going to go in tomorrow and talk to him and see if i can get a better deal.
Hmmm,....sounds a little dodgy what he's telling you.
There's always the "I haven't had/got time to do this" story.
Like MSTRS says, protect yourself !!
"...you meet the weirdest people riding a Guzzi !!..."
Is it possible to still do a VIR check on the bike even if the rego has lapsed or whatever and needs revinning?
because they are lazy, probably the same reason they mightn't have graduated from high school, the same reason i am selling my vespa project instead of completing it and making a profit.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
i wouldnt buy a bike that hasnt been vinned again. I brought my current bike because it was not vinned and cheap. It rode beautifully. Didn't appear to have anything wrong with it and its only $400 to vin it. I took it on and $2000 later I had it on the road. It was one thing after another, and got the the stage where I spent too much on it to scrap it so had to continue. In saying that I paid $1000 for the bike and $2000 to get it on the road. I couldn't have paid $3000 for the same thing in the same condition and after they had gone through the bike with their super fine tooth comb I know now that everything is mint on it.
