Wellington Bike Parking

If I had to pay the same as a car, then I guess I might as well fill up an entire carpark, not just 1/5th of one....

Did you hear the story of what happened in Masterton yonks ago when the local cop started ticketing bikes for parking in between cars (back when you were allowed to do that and there were no bike parking areas).

One morning the good folks of Masterton arrived in town to find every single meter space occupied by a motorbike, all paid up and smack in the middle of the parking space.

"Apparently" it also happened in central Auckland in about 1975, but nobody seems to know for sure. It's not impossible I guess, people were way more organised when it came to protests back then.

I park in a side street off Courtney Place during the day, where there are those funny paved footpaths - no kerb between the road and footpath so hard to tell when one ends and the other begins.

I always park out of the way - dont block the footpath or anything - in behind a park bench or phone booth. I have been parking there for almost 2 years and got my first 'warning notice' yesterday. Have the parking wardens changed their attitude lately?

With Regards to Kerry Prendegast being anti motorcycles,her husband Rex Nichols is a biker,he owns a BMW R1150,so whats up with that!!
Not that Rex would be parking in town I suppose

Seems like it, they have been warning people all over the city. Wonder how long before they start ticketing?

Aparently parking a bike on the footpath causes additional wear on the paving...

Whilst on the subject where is we go to ask for a new park?
And what justification is needed to get one?

Seeing as you work for WCC, I wonder if you can you tell me what it is about NZ city councils that makes them think its not on that we park on the footpath? Go to any number of decent sized cities overseas and you see they tolerate bikes on footpaths. WTF is the deal?

Does Land Transport NZ actually say anything about parking on footpaths, or is it a council thing? In Melbourne, Vicroads (our RTA equivalent) has a guide for properly parking on the footpath which applies statewide, and most shopping centres etc have no issue with it. Is it actually illegal in Wellington, and is it enforced? What is the general attitude to doing it at places such as shopping malls? I'm moving to Wellington in early Jan and I'd hate to give up one of the best things about owning a bike I assume the bike parking is not metered?

Much like Drum, I park on the paving in/around Courtenay Place. Haven't had any interest from parking wardens yet, no warnings to speak of.
My only scare came when I saw a bit of paper stuck to it flapping about, only to find it was a flyer for the Toy Run.
Can see it from my store so would go out and confront any Parkwise crackhead trying to ticket me.
