and those in between who made it down last week.
I was bloody impressed with the numbers.
Well done, lots of respect for you.

Some things are worth dying for, living is one of them.
Thanks for having us..
* note to self, don't move south.. it's cold, wet and fekin windy![]()
:slap:
all the guys that rode down are bordering on insane, it was cold, wet, windy and dark.
I was not in the position to ride down and so I car pooled and was chauffeured by none other then Macktheknife who drive us there and back solid.
That was my first time to Wellington and the Hutt valley, it was great to meet some new people, just a shame that it was under such crap circumstances.
You have some awesome roads up in those hills too.
Was good to meet you FatJim (not so fat though) and thanks heaps for the lend of the mighty VTR on which I nearly maimed HDTBoy. It was a really nice bike to ride about on for the day.
Cibby play thing
i've just clicked as to why the populus is a little more portly down those ways... internal central heating![]()
:slap:
was a good ride.. and i'd do it again should the need arise.
I'm hoping to do a more scenic tour down later on tho, hopefully round off the tyre again, and not get so wet..
Thanx to Mikey and Deano for a night at theirs.. And was actually nice to put some faces to names, despite the circumstances..
I have special thanks to Riffer and family for putting me up for the night... Much appreciated.![]()
Now as to the shocking raining weather from Levin onwards to Upper Hutt...
The Paramata Road was so friggen windy...... I got blown all over the road.
The Hayward Road part was ok.
Now the Rimataka Hill the next day..... it was raining and foggy all the way up... it drizzled on the way down.
I was told when I got to the top there are always a bunch of ridersup at the summit to say hello to. So I pulled in and not a rider to be seen.
![]()
I did see one rider going the opposite way to me thou.![]()
Yep I rode that hill ALL on my own.... real slow. and I made it. WOHOOOOOOOOO
Rained all the way back up to Hastings...
Then it was a sunny day but a cold ride back to Auckland.
You know nothing is worse than riding in wet boots and dripping wet gloves over a very long distance. Frozen feet and blue fingers just aint nice at all.
But a huge thanks to the Welly crew for your wonderful friendly faces and hospitality.... you guys and gals rock.![]()

You're welcome.
Glad you liked the hill. Many a time I've gone up there and no-one was in the carpark. See my profile pic if you don't believe me. Although that one was taken in July - if you think December is bad you should do the hill in the middle of winter!
Good to meet a number of you - surprising how none of you look like what I expected - but then again judging by how many "Oh - you're riffer!" comments I got people thought I was different too - for the record I'm going on 40, five foot ten, balding and fattish... and had a goatee until this morning - clean shaven now again.
Good to hear you all got back safely - we were all a bit worried for you Aucklanders down here, but no-one wanted to say anything.![]()
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
- James Dickey, Cherrylog Road.
Well I used to be a good ol'Wellingtonian until our family packed up and moved up to Auckies oh so long ago. I always head down several times a year to stay in touch with family and friends - now that I've joined the ranks of two wheelers and KB, I have even more of a reason (or excuse?) to ride down to Welly way!
Spot you soon in the twisties and pootling roads around Wellywood!Unless Colapop gets his mitts on me first
(Note to self, bring Zapf down as sacrificial lamb to toss to Colapop!)
"I like to ride anyplace, anywhere, any time, any way!"![]()
Yeah, thanks guys.
Thanks to Cousin Deano and Mrs Deano for the carpet.
Thanks to mikey for not stealing my bike when I was passed out pissed.
Thanks to kiwifruit for the hospitality on me way down on Thursday night.
Huge effort peoples. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to put more faces to names, but life's a cheese commercial and good things take time.![]()
It was the least we could do. Respect for our fallen friends and support for those who were close to them.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
It was an honour and a privilege to be there.
Big ups to you Wellingtonians too, for your great hospitality.... shame you can't do good weather too
Diarrhoea is hereditary - it runs in your jeans
If my nose was running money, I'd blow it all on you...
