Checking for money owing without paying for VIR

I wasn't on KB last time I was buying a bike. I couldn't find a way around paying VIR then but somebody probably knows.

Yes, the personal property and securities register, run by the Guvvimint.

You have to register with a credit card, and each search costs just $1. It's the one all the agencies use, they just charge heaps for doing it for you.
I was registered when I was a reporter, private people can do it.

[EDIT:] Scroll down a few posts, you can do it by text!

You could always ask someone like me - then I end up paying for it and you don't.

The easiest way (and not well advertised) is to text the Rego OR the vin to FIND (3463).

Costs 20c to send and 20c for the response.

Excellent, link is busted but the number works. It's a bit suss that they say the results can be verified at the website. What's to veify if they use the same database to check?

That's bloody beaut JKWNZ, I was alwasy a bit sus that the clown at the bank knew what I wanted him to do after i paid off my bike. Just checked and I'm clear.
It is important to use the vin if you're checking a vehicle for sale, as it's so easy to get a new plate.

    Good point on the re-plating.
Thinking aloud: Does it show on rego papers if it's not the original plate? It should be a clear trail with two owners from new since 2003/4. So far so good anyway.

BTW the pprs have sent me two more identical texts so it might wind up costing more than a dollar at this rate!
